Job Summary:
The Department of Pathology, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a junior to mid-level faculty member in academic neuropathology, at the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor to join two experienced academic neuropathologists based at the affiliated University of Colorado Hospital (UC Health (UCH), 925 beds) and the Children's Hospital of Colorado (CHCO, 600 beds), co-located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in metro Denver. Our neuropathologists also provide neuropathology consult service for a 7-state region of the Midwest and Mountain West that lacks board certified neuropathologists. In addition to central nervous system (CNS) and spine cases, our neuropathologists cover eye pathology, medical neuro-autopsy examinations, engage in teaching associated with the CU School of Medicine, and perform independent and collaborative research.
The successful candidate should be well-versed in emerging molecular tools and diagnostic paradigms particularly associated with cancer and neoplastic disorders, with less emphasis on degenerative neuropathology. The identified candidate will also provide support and consultation for scientific and clinical initiatives as well as have an opportunity to develop their own academic studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical biopsy/resection and medical autopsy derived neuropathology cases from UCH (primarily) and CHCO (secondarily), associated system hospitals as well as consulting institutions, pathologists, and patients.
- Adherence to quality standards/metrics and regulatory requirements associated with departmental anatomic pathology, molecular genetics and cytogenetics labs and our affiliate UCH and CHCO associated laboratories related to neuropathology
- Participate in continuing education of pathology and laboratory faculty and staff, the application and roll out including education associated with neuropathology tests and interpretation, and their interpretation and understanding across the multidisciplinary spectrum of patient care.
- Ensure timely test completion and accurate reporting of pathology tests associated with your practice, consultations, or translational research.
- Consult with peer pathologists on cases as requested or needed. Be aware that the Department requires all new malignancies to be reviewed and confirmed with a subspecialty colleague prior to diagnostic test release.
- Train and supervise pathology assistants, residents and fellows engaged in specialty training. May be involved in research activities and development projects.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Promote and work to improve relationships with clinicians and the pathology community.
