Min T/E Requirements:
  • An earned doctorate in nursing or a related discipline. If the doctoral degree is not in nursing, an MSN is required.
  • Extensive professional nursing clinical experience in different healthcare settings or organizations.
  • At least seven years of academic experience as a faculty member and three years of leadership experience overseeing accredited nursing programs.
  • Active (or eligible for) unencumbered registered nurse license in North Carolina or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
  • Transformational vision for nursing that can serve as a model for advancing the profession and supporting innovation in nursing and health care.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • A strong record in nursing scholarships is vital, as well as demonstrated strength in research and teaching.
  • Experience in curricular innovation, evaluation, and accreditation.
  • Strong appreciation and advocacy for diversity in the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing.
  • Demonstrated track record of attracting, managing, and mentoring colleagues.
  • Ability to function as a team member within the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing and across the University.
  • Proven ability to develop trust and build strong, collaborative working relationships with clinical and research faculty.
  • A record of active service within the professional community that would enhance this leadership role is also expected.
  • Must be an excellent and active listener, consistent, reflective, and self-aware.

Job Description:
The Associate Dean of the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke serves as the chief academic officer providing visionary leadership for the nursing programs, faculty and students. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing, and for enhancing its core missions of learning, discovery, and engagement. The Associate Dean maintains oversight of disciplinary partnerships, initiatives, and projects. The Associate Dean prioritizes excellence in program design across all deliveries at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is committed to stewarding the history of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the School of Nursing programs while remaining focused on continuous innovation and growth.
