Research Operations Specialist

Job Summary

The Research Operations Specialist is responsible for managing operating room operations, facilities maintenance, and safety compliance. This role combines technical expertise with hands-on support to ensure the facilities are maintained and seamless pre-clinical research activities, safety standards, and equipment upkeep.

Responsibilities
  • Manage operating room schedules, calendars, and pre-clinical research preparation.
  • Oversee inventory, medical supplies, and equipment certifications.
  • Maintain bio-waste disposal and radiation user permits and audits
  • Responsible for OR inspections (such as IACUC, AAALAC, OSHA) including working with upper management on pre-inspection preparation, post-inspection review, and deficiency report documentation.
  • Plan emergency responses and implement fire prevention and hazardous waste management.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, conduct safety audits, and address hazards.
  • Perform light maintenance (e.g., carpentry, HVAC, electrical) and coordinate contractors as needed.
  • Assist with internal moves, furniture arrangements, large equipment deliveries, and retirement/ disposal of outdated equipment.
  • Assist with yearly capital equipment inventory audit.
  • Maintain shared Institute lab equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.
