Job Summary:

The Department of Pathology, Anschutz Medical Campus, located in the Denver metro area, has an outstanding full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty opportunity for a Neuropathologist and Director of Academic Neuropathology at the rank of Professor. The successful candidate will lead our academic neuropathology faculty practice and guide our evolving clinical, educational, and research efforts in the Department to include state of the art molecular diagnostics and research, educational and informatics tools to further our understanding of central neurological diseases and cancer.

The department is closely aligned with the affiliated University of Colorado Hospital (UC Health (UCH), 925 beds), the Children's Hospital of Colorado (CHCO, 600 beds), collaborating centers and community programs, our NCI designated comprehensive Colorado Cancer Center, and others. We provide an active consult service covering a 7 state area, as well as hospitals and physicians associated the geographically broad health systems associated with CHCO and UC Health.

This unique position offers an exciting blend of clinical practice in adult and pediatric neuropathology with an emphasis on neoplastic and malignant diseases, molecular diagnostics and CNS disease pathogenesis, leadership and administration.

Faculty at the rank of Professor are expected to participate in academic activities within and outside the School and University, with a national presence and making significant strides to further our understanding, practice and patient outcomes, and teaching of human CNS and neurological diseases. This may include participation and support of clinical trials, national academic networks to better define neurological diseases through molecular diagnostics, translational to basic research (investigator-initiated or collaborative), teaching of medical school students, residents, fellows, and non-pathology faculty colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Surgical biopsy/resection and medical autopsy derived neuropathology consult cases.
  • Assist the leadership and faculty of Pathology based at UCH and CHCO, as well as consulting institutions and pathologists, in the implementation, oversight, data interpretation and reporting, clinical implication of laboratory testing in neuropathology
  • Adherence to quality standards/metrics and regulatory requirements associated with departmental anatomic pathology, molecular genetics and cytogenetics labs and our affiliate UCH and CHCO associated laboratories related to neuropathology
  • Participate in continuing education of pathology and laboratory faculty and staff, the application and roll out including education associated with neuropathology tests and interpretation, and their interpretation and understanding across the multidisciplinary spectrum of patient care
  • Ensure timely test completion and accurate reporting of pathology tests associated with your practice, consultations, or translational research
  • Consult with peer pathologists on cases as requested or needed. Be aware that the Department requires all new malignancies to be reviewed and confirmed with a subspecialty colleague prior to diagnostic test release.
  • May train and supervise pathology assistants, residents and fellows engaged in specialty training. May be involved in research activities and development projects.
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Promote and work to improve relationships with clinicians and the pathology community.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with fellowship training in neuropathology
  • 15 years of clinical experience/expertise with an academic career in clinical practice
  • Translational research focused in neuropathology, neurological cancers, neoplasia and diseases.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated history of extramural grant support as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator.
  • Demonstrated experience in molecular genetic and other specialized test assays and data interpretation associated with the diagnosis or subclassification of neurological malignancies and diseases.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$280,000 to $350,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
