Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Parking Facilities and Events provides both administrative and operational support to Parking Services. This position is responsible for maintaining operational efficiencies with emphasis on safety, customer service, public relations, planning, operational efficiency and revenue for parking facilities and events. This position is tasked with ensuring parking facilities maintain their structural integrity with preventative and corrective maintenance. The Assistant Director must also plan strategically to meet the constantly changing and growing demands of the CU Boulder campus daily operations and manage campus access for all major and minor events.

Who We Are

Parking Services is responsible for the construction, maintenance, enforcement, and permit sales for most of the university's existing and new parking facilities. We offer a variety of permit options to meet campus parking needs. In addition, Parking Services provides staffing and parking plans for thousands of annual campus events. We diligently strive to reduce and mitigate the impact of large campus events on daily university operations for permit holders and event guests.Parking Services ensures University of Colorado Boulder's collective success by supporting the campus strategic initiatives, supporting, and investing in our workforce, meeting our fiscal responsibilities as a self-funded university business, and planning for a sustainable future. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Project Management, which includes Contract Management and Planning & Construction
  • Assist in strategic planning and development to establish effective short- and long-term goals for parking physical facilities.
  • Represent Parking Services at all Facilities Management Construction meetings and commit to assisting Campus Strategic Initiatives.
  • Work on the development of multi-year programs to plan and prepare for future parking and transport needs.
  • Actively oversee all contractors and vendors on construction projects, requiring on the spot executive decision making skills.
  • Participate in relevant professional associations to remain current on industry best practices.
  • Present technological solutions and implementation strategies to internal and external partners once approved.
  • Write, bid, accept and oversee RFQs for Parking Services construction projects.
Facilities Management, which includes General Maintenance and Seasonal Snow Removal
  • Assume ownership of all PS parking facilities and equipment.
  • Manage Parking Services' physical resources to optimize profitability and improve the efficiency of facility utilization.
  • Ensure that all facilities within Parking Service's responsibility operate in accordance with CU, State and Country Policy/Statute.
  • Act as campus snow authority for PS and coordinate with Emergency Management Services, Chief of Police, Campus Communications, Vice Chancellors, and Deans to determine campus closures and delays due to safety concerns caused by weather, i.e. snow, flood, fire that directly impacts traffic ingress and egress for daily operations.
  • Acts as ADA Advisor.
Lead and Manage the Events Team
  • Set operational and financial goals for the Events Team.
  • Ensure the Events team operates efficiently and provides excellent customer service to all constituents while ensuring the availability of parking spaces for events and campus operations.
  • Set 1, 3 and 5 year strategic goals with the Events team and encourage continuous improvement of operations.
  • Lead Monthly unit and Team meetings to ensure communication and collaboration.
  • Prepare reports of monthly activities for submission to the Director of Parking.
Budget Management which includes Revenue Creation
  • Assist in the development of separate budgets that determine fiscal requirements that serve to support the formation of appropriate fee structures required to sustain the integrity of parking operations and build reserves for future campus parking requirements.
  • Design and execute revenue collection for facilities in collaboration with the AD of Finance and Technology while following appropriate fiscal rules and regulations.
  • Maintain CIP/Deferred maintenance plan to guide department capital planning.
Department Leadership
  • Drive safety initiatives in a proactive manner and promote a safe work environment in daily department operations.
  • Participate in Strategic and leadership meetings and planning sessions.
  • Develop standard operating policies/procedures and monitor compliance.
  • Hire and train staff, then set work assignments as department demands require.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, recognizing employee strengths and guiding corrective actions on areas of weakness.
  • Maintains positive relations with direct reports through coaching and helping each reach their potential.
Other
  • Complete other duties as necessary to support the operational readiness and productivity of the department.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with capital project design, construction trades and facility administration management.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with large scale major campus events.
  • Ability to work in and around equipment, in areas of limited access, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to use required safety equipment.
