Job Summary
The College of Science is seeking an experienced and talented individual to lead our Student Affairs efforts. It is the mission of the College of Science to connect our students with the vast opportunities that mathematics and science unlock as we prepare students for exciting careers and educate the next generation of scientific leaders. Serving approximately 3,000 undergraduate students, the student affairs unit in the College of Science is responsible for ensuring exceptional student outcomes and providing support and opportunities from recruitment through graduation.
The Associate Director of Student Affairs will oversee student-facing operations and programming, data analytics, and be the primary liaison with the College of Science Dean's office. This is a dynamic position that will have a wide range of scope under their purview, with opportunities for creative operations and strategic engagement with student populations. This is a fully in-person role that will be located in the Crocker Science Center on the University of Utah campus.
The College of Science at the University of Utah is a leading academic division dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge through innovative research, rigorous education, and community engagement. It encompasses eight academic units, as well as interdisciplinary programs that foster collaboration across scientific disciplines such as the Wilkes Center for Climate Science and Policy, the Center for Math Education, and the Henry Eyring Center for Cell and Genome Science. With state-of-the-art facilities and a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and graduate training, the College of Science prepares students for careers in academia, industry, medicine, and beyond.
Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Student Affairs will have the opportunity to lead out joint efforts to establish best practices for student engagement and outcomes. Responsibilities include:
- Develop and strategize activities and student programming, including student engagement
- Coordinate College of Science housing opportunities, including the Kahlert Village COS Floor and the Crocker Science House
- Manage the College of Science Ambassador program, including coordinating Ambassadors for outreach, recruitment, and mentoring
- Provide ACCESS program support
- Serve as the Student Council liaison
- Coordinate student events as needed, including providing orientation support
- Provide insight and data analytics on university metrics
Essential Functions:
- Develops and implements customer service, staff management and financial objectives for assigned departments consistent with the University's goals and objectives.
- Implements and administers new and existing department programs and services to internal and external customers. Evaluates program effectiveness. May carry out and implement logistic plans and procedures to ensure that internal university and external entities' needs are met.
- Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals. Assists in setting department short and long-term goals.
- Oversees department staff management including recruitment, performance evaluations and retention of staff.
- Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality customer service.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community and other institutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
