Position Summary: The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.
The Military Student Services team works regularly with multiple support offices on campus to assist with the processing of military student information, the application of educational benefits, and the transfer of academic credit for military training and experience. This position is responsible for providing a wide range of support services to students who are using military education benefits or who are otherwise affiliated with the U.S. military.
A primary part of the The Outreach Coordinator for Military Student Services role is serving as the representative for the team routinely traveling to military bases, education fairs, conferences and Student Veteran's Association events. In addition to travel, this position provides support by email, phone and in-person to a wide variety of requests for information and guidance from current,prospective and alumni military students, as well as military education services officers. The Outreach Coordinator serves as a point of contact for military- affiliated students to answer questions, address concerns, submit appropriate forms, and facilitate successful transition to college (including navigation of the university systems, departments, and processes). This position must also assist military-affiliated students in navigating the benefits process with the VA, Department of Defense, or military branch, professionally and accurately. Developing and maintaining positive working relationships is critical to success in the Outreach Coordinator position. The Outreach Coordinator must demonstrate excellent customer service to a diverse faculty, staff, and student population and an ability to work with a number of partners, on-campus support offices, and external agencies. This position is responsible for attending military education fairs, building relationships with Education Services Offices on military bases, and implementing recruitment strategies. Beyond travel to bases and military-affiliated locations, this position is expected to maintain relationships with contacts and stakeholders by communicating regularly via email and phone and sending relevant WCU educational materials.
This position must maintain a broad knowledge on a range of topics including WCU admissions requirements, military education benefits, guidelines and processes, and on- and off-campus resources. This position must be able to follow strict guidelines and established processes for the VA, DOD, military branch, and the University. Working closely with the Student Veterans Association and the Veteran's Resource Center, theOutreach Coordinator will collaborate with and assess students' needs and schedule visits with on- and off-campus partners and assist with coordinating events with the Student Veterans Association.
This position is expected to serve as a full member of the Educational Outreach team, assisting with events and working some occasional evenings and weekends, particularly in the summer. Travel to education fairs and recruitment events on military bases is required. Candidate must be able to pass security protocols to access military bases in the US.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
