Post-Doctoral Fellow - 32053 Faculty

Description
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Medicine, Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension

Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Position #00633744 – Requisition #32053

Job Summary:

The Weiser-Evans laboratory focuses on vascular biology, with particular emphasis on smooth muscle cell (SMC) signaling and understanding the regulation of SMC phenotypic modulation in disease. We have developed novel genetic mouse models that allow inducible smooth muscle-specific knockout or overexpression of specific genes involved in progression of vascular disease. We routinely use a SMC fate-mapping approach developed in our lab to track mature SMCs in the setting of disease progression even if they lose all detectable expression of traditional SMC markers. This approach facilitates molecular analyses such as RNA-Seq, ChIP, and CyTOF mass cytometry. In vivo mouse genetic approaches are complemented by in vitro studies using cultured SMCs as well as co-culture systems that allow us to examine crosstalk between SMCs and inflammatory cells (e.g. macrophages).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transgenic mouse colony management and genotyping (5%)
  • Perform surgery in mouse models of cardiovascular diseases (10%)
  • Mouse sacrifice and tissue harvest (20%)
  • Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining (10%)
  • Microscopic imaging, confocal imaging and image analysis (20%)
  • Cell culture maintenance and in vitro experiments (5%)
  • Single cell suspension preparation, flow cytometry and cell sorting (10%)
  • Molecular and biochemical assays, such as western blotting, qPCR, molecular cloning. (10%)
  • Bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data (10%)

The Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Colorado has a longstanding international reputation for excellence in research. The Division faculty are well funded with total annual funding in excess of $12 million, including NIH, VA, DoD, corporate and foundation sources, placing the Division in the top ten in the country for research funding. The Division has been at the forefront of advances in nephrology, specifically in the areas related to acute kidney injury, polycystic kidney disease, hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and glomerulonephritis.

The Division holds an NIH T32 Training grant and has so for over 44 years. Our faculty and fellows continue our research mission in basic science, translational and clinical research. We are committed to training and cultivating the next generation of researchers in nephrology.

The University of Colorado offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, tuition benefits, ECO pass, paid time off – vacation, sick, and holidays and more.
