About the Position:

The mission of the School of Music is to grow artistry, build community and advance distinction. The school achieves these three pillars of artistry, community, and distinction by fostering an environment in which individual achievement and artistic expression thrive fully and equitably for our diverse students. Our degree programs and curriculum offer preparation for careers in music, music education or further graduate study. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Office Coordinator (Administrative Support Coordinator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Provides a full range of direct clerical and administrative support for students and faculty, academic programs, departmental operations, student assistants, tours and special events, health and safety needs, degree advisement documents, and catalogue and accreditation data. Interacts with administrators, staff, faculty, students, and off campus personnel to ensure high quality customer service. Troubleshoots with office staff, graduate assistants, and student assistants. Provides receptionist and other departmental support. Performs other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
High School diploma or the equivalent and five years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Ability to effectively write and present own reports. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels including highly sensitive interpersonal situations. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Strong customer orientation and good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to draft and compose correspondence and standard reports. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to meet deadlines, set priorities, and follow directions. Ability to apply independent judgement, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop solutions. Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature. Proficiency with Macintosh operating systems and using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet.
