Working Title: Senior Laboratory Science Professional – Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care
Position: #00815977 – Requisition: #31221
Job Summary: | The Department of Medicine has an opening for a full-time Senior Laboratory Science Professional in the Schwartz/Yang Lab. The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how a combination of genetic factors and environmental exposures contribute to an individual's disposition to develop lung diseases, mainly pulmonary fibrosis. State-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome studies are used to identify targets and biomarkers of early disease in human cohorts. These targets are then studied in animal and cell models. We use well established animal models of lung injury and fibrosis to study how specific genes contribute to disease development. Required skills for this position include experience with animals in a research or clinical setting, including basic care and husbandry, administering medications and treatments, animal anesthesia and surgical techniques, necropsy, and histology. Wet lab experience with cell culture and molecular assays (ELISAs, PCR, DNA/RNA extractions, immunohistochemistry) is also desirable. This position requires detailed record keeping and the ability to perform analysis of collected data. Individuals will be expected to collaborate in the design and execution of multiple research projects. Must be willing and able to occasionally work on weekends and outside of regular business hours when required. Note: This is an essential services position. The incumbent is required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shifts during emergency campus closures. Key Responsibilities:
