Job Summary
The Emergency Services Pharmacy Team at Michigan Medicine is currently recruiting for highly motivated pharmacy technicians to join our team in this fast-paced environment!

Pharmacy Technician duties in the Emergency Services Department may include:
  • Conducting admission medication histories
  • Preparing medications to be dispensed from the emergency department pharmacy
  • Assisting the pharmacist in the resuscitation bays
  • Stocking medication shelves, returning excess stock to inventory
  • Filling automated dispensing cabinets in the emergency department
  • Answering and triaging telephone calls and questions from the interdisciplinary team
  • Performing pharmacy cleaning and documentation
  • Assisting with regulatory compliance for medication management
  • Assisting with training of staff and learners
  • Completing special projects as assigned by supervisor (e.g., participation in quality and process improvement initiatives)
  • ROTATING WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS

Required Qualifications*
Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability: Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Pharmacy Technician Associate:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Pharmacy Technician Intermediate:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  • One or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Pharmacy Technician Senior
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Two or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Desired Qualifications*
At least one year technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification
The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician..

Work Schedule
This is an evening shift position, and includes working every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) with a holiday rotation.
