The Department of Educational Leadership and Technology (ELT), at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for the position of Department Chair (12 months), a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as early as July 1, 2020.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students, and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. CSUSB employs 467 full-time faculty and offers 48 undergraduate, 35 graduate, and 1 doctoral degree programs and 14 academic programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities
The Department of Educational Leadership and Technology (ELT) is one of three departments in the College of Education and serves over 300 credential, undergraduate, and graduate students seeking teaching credentials, bachelors, and master in Career and Technical Education; master in Instructional Design and Technology; administrative credential and master in Educational Administration, and doctorate in Educational Leadership. ELT department's mission is to "prepare professionals who educate and lead through technological innovation, creativity, and critical thinking. Our programs foster equity-driven and research-based decision making to transform policies and practices."

The newly hired chair would join a well-established department of 16 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, two full-time lecturers, and over 15 adjunct faculty members. The successful candidate will provide ethical, responsible and professional leadership in managing the day-to-day operational needs of the department, including supervision of support staff, scheduling of courses, monitoring assessment plans, evaluating and mentoring faculty, fiscal management, program evaluation and allocating facilities, supplies and equipment for teaching, research and service activities.

The Chair is also expected to engage in research and scholarly activities. The Chair will also represent the Department and College with on-campus and off-campus constituencies, in particular, school districts in our service area of San Bernardino and Riverside counties. In addition, the chair is encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support achieving the goals of the university's strategic plan. Commitment to excellence, fostering harmony, enhancing diversity and creating a welcoming and inclusive culture in the department are also very important.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement and partnerships; and, e) enhancing the campus identity. Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration, Career and Technical Education or a related field is required by the time of appointment.

Associate Professor or higher rank.

Qualified to teach in at least one of the department's programs.

Demonstrated effective post-secondary leadership/management experience, working with faculty and students. Demonstrated effective post-secondary teaching experience.

Demonstrated experience leading social justice initiatives related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Active research and publication record.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior leadership experiences at the K-12 level and in a higher education setting.

Demonstrated effective collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and/or stakeholders.

Demonstrated experience with the development of faculty colleagues.

Demonstrated experience leading student-centered initiatives that resulted in increased recruitment, retention rates, and graduation.
