Job Summary
With minimal supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and support systems of varying complexity at Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities*
Primary area of responsibility is whole house coverage at University Hospital, Children and Women's Hospital, Cardiovascular Center, and other on-campus locations at Michigan Medicine. Responsibilities include corrective and preventative maintenance on a wide variety of medical equipment. Equipment responsibilities include, but is not limited to, patient monitoring systems, nurse call systems, TV systems, patient equipment, operating room equipment, and other equipment as assigned. Work performed is documented in the work order database system called AIMS. Additional duties include the identification and preparation of parts and materials necessary to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned devices. Cross training for other Biomedical Engineering Technicians for the purpose of expanded backup support is also required.

Required Qualifications*
  • An Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, or equivalent Military training is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced analog and digital electronics.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Technician must have a valid driver's licensed and be able to drive a motor vehicle.

Work Schedule
Wednesday through Wednesday 1:00 PM - 11:30 PM. This is an afternoon, 8 days on, 6 days off rotation with 10-hour shifts.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
