BASIC FUNCTION:
Riverside City College is seeking an Air Conditioning Instructor who will carry primary responsibility for lecture, laboratory and/or hybrid instruction in Air Conditioning courses typically taught at the community college level.

The ideal candidate will share RCC's and the department of Applied Technology's commitment to educating its racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll over 30,000 students, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Hispanic/Latinx students comprise 60% of RCC's student population, 8% are African-American, 7% are Asian American, 0.3% are Native American, 0.7% are Pacific Islander, 21% are White, 2% are multiracial. Riverside City College has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded faculty member responsible for instruction in lecture and laboratory classes in air conditioning and refrigeration.

Participation in grant implementation, service learning, or outreach may also be part of the assignment. In addition, the successful candidate may develop and maintain a professional rapport with diverse education, community, and industry partners. Participation in and completion of course and program level assessment is expected. Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line, hybrid, and/or off campus classes.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree and two years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in the air conditioning industry; OR Associate's degree and six years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in the air conditioning industry; OR the equivalent is required. Master's degree is desired. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years of successful experience teaching air conditioning and refrigeration classes is required. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Must have professional both residential and commercial/industrial HVAC/Refrigeration industry experience installing and operating such systems.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and practices for engaging our diverse student population in addition to having the ability to teach well; create and develop curriculum; work well with others (students, faculty, staff, and administrators); and fulfill the duties of a full-time faculty member in a shared governance environment.

The ideal candidate will (1) have recent experience working with African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American and other racially/ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom; (2) possess an understanding of how historical patterns have shaped the experiences and representation of these students within higher education; especially how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes; (3) demonstrate a willingness to examine and refine instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students; (4) demonstrate experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom. The candidate will also demonstrate knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
HERS Rater, HVAC Excellence and/or NATE Certification (or equivalent) is desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will, among other things:
1. Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.
2. Be responsible for instruction. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in air conditioning and refrigeration.
3. Maintain industry expertise in order to assist in keeping the discipline up to date with current educational and licensing standards.
4. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and technologies to keep students motivated and engaged.
5. Collaborate and assist with discipline and program promotion.
6. Provide leadership in program development, developing regional college/industry/governmental agency partnerships, and developing/modifying curriculum in response to education, state, industry, and community need.
7. Participate in the development and/or selection of ancillary materials, instructional equipment, work experience sites, etc. that will enhance the offerings of the discipline.
8. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
9. Demonstrate commitment to student equity and ability to facilitate, participate, and lead in programmatic efforts, both within the department and campus-wide, to help students in low-performing groups succeed.
10. Teach courses as assigned based on enrollment management principles and within discipline and department guidelines for course rotation and course scheduling. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to, conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, office hours and institutional service such as participation on college committees, involvement in student activities and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
11. Completion of required professional development though various activities, workshops, or seminars.
12. Expected professional obligations include: participation in discipline/department decision-making processes, Improvement of Instruction, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, maintenance of legal documents and adherence to FERPA requirements.
14. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
15. Ability to perform cleaning of laboratory and light maintenance on lab equipment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.

Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District and College promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
