Special Projects Clinical Coordinator


Empire State University is currently seeking a Special Projects Clinical Coordinator to oversee components of its teacher preparation programs and recruitment in New York City. The Special Projects Clinical Coordinator will work with the Assistant Dean and other members of the College of Education and Marketing teams within SUNY Empire. The position will serve to support clinical experiences within the initial teacher preparation programs with a focus on residencies in New York City while also serving a critical need in building recruiting infrastructure and workforce pipelines. Serving as a frontline communicator to local school building leadership will be a key tenet of the position.

The successful candidate will be able to interpret state regulations and communicate that information effectively to students, faculty, and others across the university through multiple modes of communication including webinars, presentations, on site meetings, and email. The successful candidate will build relationships with key stakeholders across NYC to facilitate meaningful clinical experiences in diverse settings and seek out recruitment opportunities. This will involve frequent communication with potential placement sites across New York City.

In addition to assisting with clinical coordination in NYC for residents, this person will also work to establish registered apprenticeships, recruit for our current education degree programs, and work to help build teacher pipelines in partnership with College in the High School and faculty. This will include working with our local education agencies and other related agencies in the NYC metro region to develop opportunities and outreach for prospective and current students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit prospective students into undergraduate and graduate education degree programs through targeted outreach and engagement efforts with focus on residency models for MAT programs.
  • Partner with the marketing team at Empire to develop targeted materials and messaging for teacher residency placements in NYC schools.
  • Outreach to schools in the NYC metro region for recruitment and concierge modeling for student pathways to degree with emphasis on paraprofessional scale up and workforce development models:
    • Meet with school leadership to identify gaps in workforce and where Empire can provide educational supports to degree.
    • Support the establishment of registered apprenticeship programs in collaboration with educational partners (ANEW), school districts, and relevant state agencies.
    • Build and strengthen teacher preparation pipelines by collaborating with College in the High School programs, faculty, and educational partners.
    • Foster relationships with local education agencies (LEAs), school districts, and community organizations to expand program opportunities and student pathways.
    • Design and implement outreach initiatives that increase awareness of educator preparation programs among prospective students and community stakeholders.
    • Advise and support prospective and current students regarding program requirements, career pathways, and available educational opportunities.
    • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to identify workforce needs and align recruitment and pipeline development strategies accordingly.
    • Represent the institution at recruitment events, educational conferences, school visits, and community engagement activities.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and report on recruitment, apprenticeship, and pipeline development efforts to support continuous program improvement and growth.
  • Onsite supervision for ESTR students:
    • Communicating with students regularly and addressing questions and concerns related to clinical placements.
    • Collaborate with the CSL office in identifying the number of field supervisors needed and provide requested information to initiate hiring.
    • Supporting the use of technology related to clinical supervision as appropriate.
    • Participating in program meetings related to teacher residency recruitment and support.
    • Developing and participating in webinars for both students and staff related to clinical practices and procedures.
    • Providing weekly office hours for student questions and concerns.
    • Provide information related to student questions regarding clinical placements and requirements.


Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Excellent and effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in Pre-K through 12 or higher education settings.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative environment with diverse populations.
  • Ability to read and interpret SUNY and NYSED Guidelines and Regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience with NYS Certification and Licensure processes.
  • Experience working with higher education faculty and staff.
  • Experience working with external partners.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).


Special Information

  • This is a full-time, grant-funded, temporary professional staff appointment based in New York City. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.
  • May require occasional evening and/or weekend obligations in accordance with student and university needs.
  • Travel is required to fulfill department and university-wide commitments.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.

Rank/Salary: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3 / $80,000.
