Senior Academic Assistant-Tutoring
The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
To provide academic assistance to students in specific subjects corresponding to COD curricula and serve as a mentor/resource to other Academic Assistants and Peer Tutors. Serve as a trainer and consultant to other Academic Assistants on tutoring methodology. Act as a liaison between Tutoring Services and faculty.

  • Provide course-based academic assistance to students in courses where tutor has subject-matter proficiency.
  • Provide tutoring in person and online; one-on-one and in group session formats.
  • Maintain current and relevant knowledge in subject areas and general study skills, such as note taking, test preparation, test taking, time management, etc.
  • Assist supervisor with program coordination, program scheduling, and training of Academic Assistants and Peer Tutors.
  • Serve as a lead mentor/resource to other Academic Assistants and Peer Tutors.
  • Create and conduct workshops, class visits, and Strategic Success sessions, where/when appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison to faculty, coordinator, academic assistants, and peer tutors.
  • In consultation with faculty and coordinator, assist in developing programming in disciplines not previously served.
  • Solicit faculty, tutor, and coordinator input and submit requests for resources, equipment, etc. to better serve student needs.


  • Qualifications:

    Education:
    • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 18 semester hours in subject area of support required.

    Experience:
    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching or providing academic assistance required.
    • Experience leading groups required.
    • A minimum of two semesters of experience in an Academic Assistant II position at COD required.
    • Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and exceptional performance in most recent academic assistant role.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a proficiency in spoken English.







      Working Conditions:

    • Up to 25 hours per week during academic terms (approximately 40 weeks per year). Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
    • Up-to-date skills in relevant technologies; specifically, online interactive technology required.
    • This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.
