Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities, Facilities Management comprises two departments - Facilities Operations and Facilities Planning and Construction. The primary mission is to deliver required services, provide financial oversight, and serve as a liaison with appropriate Federal, State, and local agencies on matters related to planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining the physical campus environment.
Facilities Management strives to provide a safe, clean, accessible, and attractive environment that enhances the ability of academic and administrative departments to provide a personalized educational experience.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The position includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the painting needs of all campus facilities are met according to departmental standards. Responsibilities also include repairs to sheetrock walls and plaster work. Painting covers classroom and academic facilities, as well as Residence Life buildings. Athletic fields must be painted according to team schedules. The position requires using methods and general procedures related to the trade, such as using rollers, brushes, sprayers, pressure cleaners, and a variety of hand tools. Setting up scaffolding and using ladders are also required. All assigned work orders must be completed in a timely manner. Campus-wide pressure cleaning should be done as needed. Additional duties include assisting with other departmental needs, such as setups or labor tasks, as assigned. Attention to detail, teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to safety protocols are essential in all tasks.

Job Description:
Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint. Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings. Select premixed paints, stains, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors. Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns, or paint rollers and apply paint with a cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces. Erect scaffolding or set up a ladder to perform tasks above ground level. Graffiti removal from the interior and exterior of buildings. Pick up and deliver painting supplies and maintain inventory. Conduct semi-annual facility inspections that identify needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures. Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor used. Responsible for effective, professional, and courteous communication with the requestor prior to and after project completion to ensure needs are met. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. Perform painting on Athletic Fields that includes field layout preparation and stencil use that includes all lines, numbers, and logos. Perform pressure washing on the exterior of assets and infrastructure that include but are not limited to facilities, walls, structures, walkways, roadways and use various applicable products adhering to manufacturer use guidelines. Maintain inventory of assigned tools and assist with inventory control of departmental materials and equipment. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Store, handle, and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately. Frequent lifting of objects that include but may not be limited to products and equipment upwards of 60lbs. Able to lift heavier objects such as equipment, furniture, etc., with assistance. Other duties assigned could include working in other areas of the maintenance department to provide support during absences or a shortage of staff in other trades or to perform duties associated with light construction projects. Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Services Department .


Management Preference:
3 -5 years of directly related experience.
