Job Summary
The Field and Collections Research Assistant position is involved in a research project related to the diversity and distribution of freshwater algae across freshwater environments in Boulder County. This position provides hands-on experience in field work, specimen processing, documentation of specimens, database management, report preparation, and identification of freshwater algae, offering museum collections management experience while supporting day-to-day curatorial and collections activities.

Who We Are

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Fieldwork collecting freshwater algae from microhabitats in Boulder County.
- Prepare for fieldwork and post-fieldwork activities.
- Process fresh samples for observation and identification using research grade light microscopes.
- Process samples for permanent diatom slides.
- Database samples, slides, identifications and images according to established museum standards.
- Support curators, staff, and other students with collection-related tasks.
- Assist curators and other staff with collection tours, presentations, and paleontology outreach.
- Follow proper handling, safety, and collections care protocols in the lab and in the field.
What You Should Know
This is a temporary, part-time position, 15-20 hours per week (flexibility on days in the field).
What We Can Offer
The hourly pay range for this part-time position is $20-30, depending on background and experience.
Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

- Graduate or undergraduate student at CU Boulder.
- Technical expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel.
