Job Summary
The Division of Public Safety at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Threat Assessment Specialist! This role reports directly to the Director of Threat Assessment and plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the university community by conducting comprehensive reviews of reports, assessing potential threats of violence, and assisting leadership in devising strategies to mitigate risks. This includes managing case intake, conducting risk assessments, delivering training, and collaborating with campus departments and law enforcement agencies to ensure a proactive approach to threat management.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Behavioral Intervention/Case Intake
- Serves as a Case Manager for faculty, staff and student cases referrals.
- Reviews and triages reports of concerning behavior referred from various sources, raising cases to the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) / Threat Assessment Team (TAT) as necessary.
- Coordinates ad-hoc BIT/TAT meetings to address emergent cases, including after-hours availability.
- Conducts thorough research on individuals of concern using open-source intelligence, facilitating analysis by the BIT/TAT.
- Assists in preparing BIT/TAT agendas, compiling meeting notes, and tracking action items.
- Manages administrative functions of BIT/TAT including service agreements, policy updates, and annual reporting.
- Maintains an operation manual for BIT/TAT and ensure accurate documentation in shared records database (Maxient).
Risk Assessment
- Conducts risk assessments such as the Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment (SIVRA) or the Workplace Assessment of Violence Risk (WAVR) with individuals of concern and prepares written summaries of findings and recommendations.
- Monitors individual cases and progress to ensure compliance with recommendations and address emerging concerns.
Training/Education
- Collaborates with campus partners to increase knowledge and resource development related to TATs.
- Prepares materials (written, presentations, videos) to document activities and convey information effectively.
Other Duties
- Handles safety-sensitive/law enforcement-sensitive information with discretion.
- Participates in committees, forums, and trainings to foster relationships with internal partners.
- Collaborates with various units within DPS and assists with policy development and project design.
- Maintains relationships with professionals in similar roles at other University of Colorado system institutions and reports on trends across higher education.
- May be required to work night, weekends or holidays as needed.
What You Should Know
Standard working hours, M-F. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by supervisor and/or business need. The position may be eligible to work in a hybrid modality, but will likely work onsite exclusively during the initial period of onboarding.
What We Can Offer
The annual salary range for this position is $70,900 to $83,283 annually.

What We Require
- A bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum of three (3) years professional experience (post-bachelor's degree) in case management, threat assessment, violence risk assessment, or crisis response.

- Demonstrates immediate readiness to address complex issues with professionalism, maintaining a calm and non-judgmental demeanor.
- Proficient in data and record management techniques to accurately document cases and maintain confidentiality.
- Successful completion of criminal background checks.
- Familiarity with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Knowledge of the infrastructure of Institutions of Higher Education and their relationships with State agencies.
- Proven ability to develop positive relationships and collaborate effectively with various partners including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and law enforcement.
