Job Description Summary
The Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute (AFCRI) and Department of Cancer Biology (CBIO) Research Operations and Lab Support Services group provides essential services in support of the cancer research community within the Kelley Research Building (KRB) in the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM). The KRB cancer research community spans six wet bench laboratory floors and includes over 40 principal investigators and their research personnel.

Job Description

Reporting to the management team for Research Operations and Lab Support Services, assist with oversight and deliver services as outlined in support of labs in AFCRI, CBIO, and the broader cancer research community within the KRB. Provide general laboratory support including biohazard waste collection and disposal, lab glassware washing, and autoclave/sterilization processing. Handle, monitor, and manage inventory of carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen. Monitor and maintain shared consumables inventory including requisitioning, receiving, unpacking, and restocking supplies where necessary. Assist with laboratory reconfigurations, equipment moves, and general laboratory maintenance. Monitor the Aegis environmental monitoring installation and respond to on-site system alerts. Partner in supporting the Aegis environmental monitoring installation campus wide. Maintain common areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and a generally user-friendly atmosphere. Provide services and use resources responsibly and efficiently. Follow and implement established RF support policies and procedures. Maintain and provide documentation as required.

RF provides essential support services to the AFCRI and CBIO research community. The Research Operations Lab Services Technician position is designated as "essential" and is expected to work when normal campus operations are suspended unexpectedly or during planned closures (e.g., inclement weather, winter break) or if there is an emergency impacting supported entities. The Research Operations team is considered essential personnel and staff are expected to occasionally work outside of your regular schedule (e.g.: on-call rotation, overtime, weekends, special winter break, etc.). To the extent possible, managers will provide timely notice of modified schedules.

Job Responsibilities
  • Handle, monitor, and maintain supplies of carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen, ensuring safe handling and adequate stock levels.
  • Monitor and maintain shared consumables inventory, including requisitioning, receiving, unpacking, and restocking supplies as necessary.
  • Respond to end-user requests related to Aegis environmental monitoring installations and address on-site system issues.
  • Partner in supporting campus-wide Aegis environmental monitoring installations.
  • Assist with laboratory reconfigurations, equipment moves, and general laboratory maintenance.
  • Maintain common laboratory areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and a user-friendly environment.
  • Provide services efficiently and use resources responsibly.
  • Follow and implement established RF support policies and procedures.
  • Maintain required service logs, inventory records, and other documentation.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications
  • High School Grad/GE Degree and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Associates degree or two year college equivalent preferred.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
