Job Description:
Due to program expansion, the School of Human and Protective Services at Madison College is hiring three full-time Emergency Medical Services (EMS) instructors to teach across the EMS disciplines (which includes EMT, AEMT, Paramedic). Madison College is a comprehensive, open-access institution providing a high-quality education to a diverse population, including first-generation college students. The ideal candidate brings strong paramedic field experience, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to make effective decisions in dynamic and high-pressure environments. Candidates who have served as mentors, preceptors, or field training officers and who are passionate about preparing the next generation of EMS professionals are encouraged to apply. Teaching experience is welcome but not required. Madison College supports industry professionals in developing the instructional skills needed to succeed in the classroom and clinical environment.

Full-time faculty work a nine-month contract for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and teaching summer courses, if available, is optional, with additional pay. Our goal is to conduct virtual interviews on or around April 24th and 27th, and second-round, in-person interviews the week of May 11th, for an August 13, 2026, start date.
This position is responsible for teaching Paramedic/EMT/AEMT classes at the college level. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction using established curriculum and course materials, adapting and enhancing instructional strategies to support student learning, utilizing effective teaching technologies and learning environments, assessing student progress, advising students, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of curriculum and instruction. Faculty also participate in college service activities at the department, school, and college levels.
This position reports to the Dean of the School of Human and Protective Services
A faculty member in this position may teach the following courses: EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Cardiology, Pharmacology. Other teaching opportunities may be assigned depending on departmental needs. Most courses are offered in person (day and evening), with some hybrid offerings.
Essential Duties:
-Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students' needs and support student engagement. Revise curriculum to improve student learning.
-Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
-Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection, career concerns, internships, and other matters.
-Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendation, and/or helping students link with internships, service learning, job shadowing and other forms of networking.
-Provide support to the program, the school, and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.
-Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of an individualized professional development plan.
-Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Effective communication skills including demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
-Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. This includes, but is not limited to, knowledge/experience with current educational methods/strategies such as learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation, collaborative techniques, and strategies aimed at closing the achievement gaps across race, gender, class, and disability (through inclusive pedagogy).
- Desire and ability to teach courses at both the collegiate transfer and technical/occupational program levels.
-Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts and ideas to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.
-Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods, as well as incorporating appropriate use of new and emerging technologies into the learning environment.
-Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion, direction, and innovation.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
Option 1
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of related paramedic work experience
OR
Option 2
- Associate degree in a related field
- Five (5) years (10,000 hours) of paramedic work experience
- Ability to complete a Bachelor's degree in any field within three (3) years of hire (Madison College offers tuition reimbursement)
Additional Required Credentials (both options):
- Licensed at the EMT-Paramedic level or higher in Wisconsin
- Licensed as a Wisconsin EMS Instructor II, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
At least one (1) year (2,000 hours) of occupational work experience must have occurred within the five (5) years prior to the date of hire. This requirement may be waived for candidates with at least two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field within the previous five (5) years.
Experience with, or willingness to learn, different modes of instruction (online, hybrid, Classroom Live, and modes of the future).
