The Access Services Manager is responsible for developing and managing circulation processes, overseeing the anatomical models, course reserves, and technology lending collections to monitor and recommend improvements in all of these areas. As the lead for Access Services, this position supports the members of the unit in effective and efficient maintenance of their respective collections and responsibilities. The position will also identify opportunities for growth and development to benefit the library and the individuals in the unit.
Oversees the physical collections at the Ask Us Desk.
As the circulation expert for the Auraria Library, this position will be responsible for monitoring the circulation functions of the unit. This role includes evaluating, developing, managing, and implementing the circulation module policies and procedures of the integrated library system (ILS) application including loan rules, patron types, and select locations. Additionally, the position manages overdue patron accounts. Manages circulation parameters within the ILS including patron types, loan rules, and some item locations. Will create and maintain loan rules to keep up to date with the changing circulation landscape.
The Access Services Manager will also be responsible for monitoring unit procedures to ensure they meet the goals of the Library, follow best practices, and meet user needs. This position will need to determine the appropriate data to collect and analyze to perform this function and to support recommendations for policy changes. This position will create new procedures or modify existing procedures for the unit based on results of this analysis. The Access Services Manager will lead projects to improve circulation services to meet the identified needs of our users.
This position serves as the main point person for the first and second floor Ask Us Desks, which are the library's main service points. The Access Services Manager works at these busy information hubs to oversee daily operations, ensuring consistent application of Ask Us polices and procedures; supervising and supporting the work of Ask Us colleagues, staff, and student employees; and providing circulation, research, and wayfinding services to users.

What you will do:
Leadership:
- Manages the daily operations of the library's circulation services.
- Leads the team responsible for developing, assessing, and implementing changes to the library's circulation services in pursuit of continuous improvement.
- Supervises and evaluates five full-time employees. (Four classified staff positions and one university staff)
- Provide formal and informal training and coaching to student workers and colleagues regarding circulation and customer service best practices based on knowledge of trends and developments in the profession.
- Manages the process for recovering, billing, and processing payments for overdue items.
- Identifies and recommends professional development needs of the Access Services unit.
- Opens the Library each weekday and serves as the Point Person until Library leadership is on site.
- Serve as staff point-person during Ask Us Desk shifts, solving customer concerns and supporting Ask Us Desk staff, faculty, and student employees by providing training, coaching, and structure.
Circulation Policies and Procedures Management:
- Evaluates and provides guidance on existing and proposed circulation policies and procedures to ensure they provide balance between access and availability, informed by data, experience, and professional best practices.
- Provides individual and group training for student employees, faculty, and staff to ensure consistently high-quality customer service throughout the library.
- Develops and maintains high-quality documentation for all circulation procedures.
- Troubleshoots circulation-related issues to identify solutions and improvements.
- Manages circulation parameters within the ILS including patron types, loan rules, and some item locations.
- Creates and maintains loan rules and patron types to comply with new or changing circulation policies.
- Serves as lead for circulation-related system updates, migration, and implementation.
Access Services' Collections Management:
- Oversee course reserves, technology lending, and anatomical models collections.
- Leads the Access Services unit to collect and assess data to identify opportunities to introduce new materials to advise the department head for purchase and implementation.
- Develops and oversees inventories of Access and User Services managed collections.
- Collaborates with others in the Access and User Services department and others across the library to ensure discoverability of Access and User Services managed collections.
Additional duties:
- Member of Library committees and task forces as needed.
- Promote a positive work environment and lead by example.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in library science, social sciences, computer science, humanities, statistics, or related field.
- Four years of library experience in circulation or access services.
Substitutions:
- A Master's degree in Library Science may substitute for the Bachelor's degree, but not the specific four years of professional experience.
Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
- Completed coursework from an ALA-accredited library school or program.
- Experience with circulation module functions of an integrated library system (ILS).
- Experience in an academic library environment in a variety of access and public services including: circulation, document delivery, course reserves, and/or reference.
- Bilingual.
- Experience serving customers with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to develop, interpret and evaluate data, evaluate policies, and exercise good judgment in the application, interpretation, and communication of policies procedures, rules, and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and complete complex projects with multiple deadlines and schedules.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word and Outlook.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be willing and able to open the Library Monday-Friday.
- The typical hours for this position will be 7:00 am- 3:30 pm. Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
- The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $66,000 - $74,272.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
