Min T/E Requirements:
A master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and team-building abilities, possess knowledge of student development theory and residential curriculum models, and have experience managing crisis situations and student conduct processes. The Office of Housing and Residence Life offers residential students the opportunity to be part of a community that is clean, safe and respectful; a community that is interactive and conducive to academic, educational, and social development.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Associate Director for Residential Experiences reports to the Director. The Associate Director will assist with managing staffing and operations in multiple campus residence hall and apartment buildings with nearly 2000 residents, annual budget of approximately $11,000,000, and a workforce of approximately 75 full -time, part-time, and student employees. This position assists with leadership, administration, and general oversight for a comprehensive housing and residence life program.

The Associate Director for Residential Experiences provides leadership for Residence Life with a strong emphasis on student development and success. This position is responsible for implementing a residential curriculum, fostering welcoming and vibrant communities, and advancing initiatives that promote belonging, retention, and academic achievement. The Associate Director oversees assessment efforts to ensure continuous improvement and supervises professional and student staff to deliver high-quality residential programs. Through collaboration across campus, this role supports the mission of UNC Pembroke and enhances the overall residential experience for students.

Job Description:
The Associate Director for Residential Experiences provides leadership for Residence Life with a strong emphasis on student development, belonging, and success. This position is responsible for supervising Residence Life Coordinators and overseeing student staff recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing development to ensure a strong team of student leaders committed to engagement and persistence. The Associate Director promotes a collaborative and supportive team environment and provides guidance to foster positive residential communities that enhance student wellness and academic achievement. In addition to staff leadership, the Associate Director designs and implements a residential programming model aligned with the needs of residential students and UNCP's mission. This includes developing class-year focuses, integrating learning domains that promote personal growth, and maintaining an assessment plan for continuous improvement. The role supports housing initiatives that strengthen community engagement and persistence, collaborates with campus partners to deliver programs that advance retention and wellness, and provides oversight for community governance structures to promote student leadership and involvement. The Associate Director also manages student conduct and crisis response within residential communities in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct. Responsibilities include ensuring staff are trained on CARE reporting, conduct procedures, Title IX, and case management protocols; participating in the administrator on-call rotation to provide emergency response and referrals; and managing post-incident follow-up to support student well-being. This position assists in maintaining Standard Operating Procedures related to conduct and crisis response and develops emergency preparedness plans and risk mitigation strategies to ensure safety and compliance. Further, the Associate Director leads assessment and data-driven decision-making efforts by developing tools to measure student learning outcomes and program effectiveness, using data to inform strategic planning and retention initiatives, and preparing reports for stakeholders. The role also provides stewardship of programming budgets, ensures fiscal responsibility, and assists with long-range financial planning for Residence Life initiatives. Overall, this position plays a critical role in creating inclusive, vibrant residential communities that promote student engagement, wellness, retention, and academic success, while supporting the mission and strategic priorities of UNC Pembroke.

Management Preference:
The ideal candidate will have experience with assessment and data-driven program improvement, demonstrating the ability to use evaluation results to enhance residential initiatives. Familiarity with emergency preparedness and risk management strategies is highly desirable, ensuring readiness for crisis situations and the safety of residential communities. Additionally, candidates should show a proven track record of fostering student belonging, wellness, and persistence through innovative programs and collaborative efforts that support student success. Experience supervising professional and student staff is strongly preferred, highlighting the ability to lead teams effectively and develop talent within Residence Life.
