Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of informatics, data science, and/or artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of healthcare delivery systems and academic medical centers. Applicants must have an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
Teaching responsibilities may include clinical and/or doctoral trainees, as appropriate for the applicant's expertise and interests.
Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient or outpatient services at CHOP's Main campus and other sites, as appropriate for the applicant's expertise and interests.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include serving as Principal Investigator for NIH or other grant-funded informatics and data science projects when necessary, driving the advancement of CHOP's research mission. Developing and maintaining positive professional associations with similar academically focused informatics leaders at other institutions. Driving research and academic productivity including peer-reviewed publications, presentation at academic conferences, student mentorship programs, and other scholarly activities. Leading and serving on planning and executive leadership committees.
The Chief Research Informatics Officer (CRIO) at CHOP is a pivotal leadership position, responsible for partnering with enterprise digital & technology leadership to develop and execute a comprehensive Research Informatics strategy, spanning technology, data science, AI, cloud and high-performance computing, and digital health applications that accelerates research breakthroughs and improve child health.
Reporting directly to the CHOP Chief Scientific Officer, with matrixed reporting to the Chief Digital & Information Officer, the CRIO will drive the integration of cutting-edge data, technology, and computational biology to advance clinical and translational research. This role requires extensive collaboration with leaders across CHOP, including academic chairs, division chiefs, leaders of Research Institute supported centers and programs, and C-suite executives, as well as Informatics leadership at the University of Pennsylvania and other external partners.
The CRIO leads Research Information Services and the enterprise-wide Arcus program, a multi-million-dollar strategic initiative designed to harness the full potential of clinical and research data through advanced technologies like machine learning, digital archiving, and multimodal analytics. Through visionary leadership the CRIO will lead a diverse team of experts to build a forward-looking research informatics infrastructure ensuring that CHOP is at the forefront of biomedical informatics, data science, and clinical decision support, to advance CHOP's mission to deliver transformative health solutions for children.
The CRIO will oversee policy, governance, and workflow efficiency, assist in coordinating institutional initiatives, and guide investments in cloud computing and high-performance computing to keep the research technology ecosystem interoperable and positioned for large-scale translational impact. In addition, the CRIO will support CHOP's omics and precision medicine strategies through close collaboration with relevant institutional stakeholders. Externally, the CRIO will represent CHOP's vision through participation in national and international bodies advancing informatics and data standards, innovative methods and technology, and meaningful improvement in child health.
