Department Overview
The Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is part of the Division of Student Development at
Seattle University. HRL is responsible for providing engaging, safe, and inclusive communities for
Seattle U students coupled with opportunities for connection and exploration through a dedicated
Residence Life team, strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders, commitment to living the
University's values, and Strategic Direction.
HRL is responsible for creating and maintaining student residential environments open to and
respectful of each person we serve. HRL endeavors to provide exceptional educational and growth
opportunities for students through a wide array of campus partnerships. Excellent service delivery and
quality student residential facilities, within the context of safety, care, and responsiveness, are
provided in a cost-effective manner.
There are nine (9) distinct residential communities on campus serving approximately 2,400 students,
including several "public-private partnership" entities. The HRL housing stock is a mix of traditional
residence halls, apartments, suites, and micro-units.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator for Residential Education, the Summer Housing and Residence
Life ACUHO-I Intern will assist in various special projects and committee work that align with our Jesuit
values and will help further the great work within Housing and Residence Life. Specific initiatives the
Summer Housing and Residence Life ACUHO-I Intern will focus on will be discussed at the start of the
internship, the Summer Intern will be part of a Residential Curriculum development, planning,
implementation, and assessment plan, known as the Redhawk Residential Experience. The Summer
Housing and Residence Life ACUHO-I Intern will also serve on the Senior Team on-call rotation for the
duration of their employment. Furthermore, the Summer Housing and Residence Life ACUHO-I Intern
may have the opportunity to work with other leadership team members to identify projects based on desired skills and interests to help tailor their internship experience to their professional development goals.
Other Experiences may include but are not limited to:
- Residence Hall Closing and/or Opening plans and implementation (depends on the start and
end date) - Benchmarking and Research on best practices for Student Staff selection for schools that utilize
a Residential Curriculum model - Work on Departmental Leadership Initiatives and Residence Hall Association training/advising
- Departmental marketing initiatives and social media guidelines
Professional Development
Seattle University, the Division of Student Development, and Housing and Residence Life are making
changes in line with the university's Strategic Direction. The Summer Housing and Residence Life
ACUHO-I Intern will have the opportunity to be part of big-picture conversations that help shape the
direction of the Housing and Residence Life department. Additionally, the Summer Housing and
Residence Life ACUHO-I Intern will have the opportunity to help shape how Seattle U Housing and
Residence Life applies The 10 Essential Elements of a Residential Curriculum as discussed at ACPA -
College Student Educator's International's Residential Curriculum Institute. Furthermore, Summer
Housing and Residence Life ACUHO-I Intern will have the opportunity to interact and work with other
Division of Student Development leadersto learn more about their carreer paths and understand how
their work contributes to Seattle U's mission and Strategic Direction.
Compensation
The internship start and end dates are flexible between May and September. The internship is
expected to last for a continuous 8-week period. The Summer Housing and Residence Life ACUHO-I
Intern will be compensated hourly at $24.62 for up to 30 hours a week. The intern will be provided a
furnished 1-bedroom apartment (utilities and internet included) in a residence hall, on-campus
parking, student recreation facility access (when open), and a $400 declining summer meal balance.
Travel expenses are the responsibility of the intern.

- Ability to work in a team environment to collaborate with members of Housing and Residence
Life on assigned projects and tasks. - Demonstrated ability to complete administrative tasks in a timely manner.
- Attend regular 1:1s with the Senior Coordinator for Residential Student Leadership and
Learning and regularly scheduled department and committee meetings. - Take ownership of your summer experience at Seattle U and express interest in different areas
you are interested in learning more about outside of Curricular Development. - Bring an open mind, enthusiasm to learn, and eagerness to contribute to changing environment

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $24.62 per hour
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
