Details
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a vibrant and collegial academic environment and work in a children's hospital ranked as one of the best in the U.S. The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah is seeking a Pediatric Cardiologist with expertise in heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and ventricular assist device support.
The Pediatric Cardiologist will be joining the Utah Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure and Mechanical Support Program (UCHAMP). Housed under the Section of Advanced Cardiac Therapies and Transplantation, UCHAMP is a specialized program providing care to infants and children with cardiomyopathy and heart failure in Utah and surrounding states. The UCHAMP team is currently comprised of 5 heart failure/transplant-trained faculty, 8 advanced practice providers, 4 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, 4 transplant nurse coordinators, 2 transplant pharmacists, and 2 dedicated social workers.
The Pediatric Cardiologist will provide specialized inpatient and outpatient care to children with cardiomyopathy, heart failure due to cardiomyopathy or congenital heart disease, and patients pre- and post- heart transplantation. Clinical duties will be carried out at Primary Children's Hospital locations in Salt Lake City and Lehi, Utah, and outreach sites. In addition to clinical service, there is both opportunity and expectation for academic work, quality improvement, and education. Based on the candidate's interest and expertise, a leadership role within a focused sub-specialty program (such as VAD, single ventricle care, or anti-coagulation) may be considered, with dedicated time for leadership efforts.
Established in 1991, the heart failure and transplant program has seen continuous growth, performing ~15 transplants and ~15 VADs per year. Our outcomes exceed the national benchmarks for waitlist and post-transplant care.
Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, with focused training and expertise in Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy and Transplant. A fourth year of additional training in Pediatric Heart Failure is required. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Department/University offers a competitive salary and exceptional benefits program including non-contributory retirement contributions of 20.2% of annual salary. The Department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in translational or basic research, quality improvement engagement, and excellence as educators.
