Position Description
Seattle University seeks an experienced, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as its Director of Enrollment Research and Analytics.
The director will provide critical analysis of the University's new student enrollment trends and create models to predict enrollment. The director will develop and maintain a reporting library for efforts aimed at enrollment forecasting and the assessment of recruitment initiatives. The director will assist leadership across enrollment management (which includes undergraduate admissions, graduate admissions, financial aid and the registrar) in the optimization of data to inform strategy.
The director will build a durable data infrastructure to support the development of leveraging strategies and improved predictive enrollment modeling.
The successful candidate will possess a strategic understanding of the integral role of enrollment analytics in supporting new student enrollment, student success and net tuition revenue; will be adept at identifying, designing, and carrying out the research and analysis required for complex decisions; and will have a track record of ensuring organizations make sound, evidence-based decisions and of promoting strategic alignment.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions (AVP), the director of enrollment research analytics will provide critical analysis of the University's new student enrollment trends and create predictive enrollment models. They will assist leaders across enrollment management in the organization of data to inform strategy and collaborate effectively with other campus offices to mine data and partner on planned and ad hoc reporting.
The director will build, support and sustain a culture of strategic analysis and informed decision-making by collecting, analyzing, translating and communicating data from key operational areas of the university, as well as from external sources. The director provides analytical advice and works in partnership with enrollment management leaders to drive decision-making in support of institutional priorities, focused primarily on undergraduate and graduate new student enrollment, but also supporting retention and other university priorities.
The director collaborates with internal constituencies to identify, prioritize, plan and execute the research and data analysis required for making complex decisions. This role serves as the primary resource for the development of clear enrollment metrics to guide decision-making, including descriptive statistics and predictive analytics.
The director will be an active listener and strong collaborator, able to hear what constituents are saying and translate that information into research priorities that will support the University's agenda and strategies. The director will serve as an articulate representative of the enrollment team, able to explain complex analyses while making a case for strategic decisions.
An ability to communicate up, down and across the university organizational structure will be a considerable strength. It will also be essential for the director to create an open, transparent, and ongoing dialogue with faculty and administrators that will engender cooperation, trust and confidence.
Seattle University seeks a collaborative individual with the experience, skill, drive and energy to oversee this important operation. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create a cogent set of reports and analysis of data leading to a durable enrollment infrastructure.
Analyze trends using historical data, market trends and other relevant bodies of information to create predictive enrollment models. - Develop models and strategies to identify new markets for potential recruitment and scholarship strategies.
- Regularly create ad hoc reporting for the Associate Vice President and campus leadership related to enrollment and recruitment activities.
- Perform extensive data mining from numerous sources of information including but not limited to the student information system and Slate, our constituent relationship management (CRM) system.
- Present information regularly to audiences across Academic Affairs and the university on enrollment trends and projections.
- Work extensively with units within Enrollment Management to leverage data to inform local decision making on operational issues.
- Track key performance indicators and metrics related to new student enrollment and other recruitment initiatives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:
- Master's or doctoral degree in the social sciences, business, education, statistics or a related field.
- 3+ years of progressive experience working with data mining and sophisticated modeling of data informed outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic statistical concepts and programming language of analytical software such as SAS, R, SPSS or others.
- Knowledge of relational databases, specifically SQL.
- Knowledge of an experience with student information systems, preferably Ellucian Colleage.
- Extensive experience in higher education, preferably in working with data from recruitment/admissions and/or other student records with a special emphasis on the student admissions cycle from admissions to enrollment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present reports based on analysis and to convey technical conclusions to a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated experience in data visualization and assisting others in understanding how to interpret data.
- Exceptional communication skills, including effective writing, public speaking and persuasive competencies.
- Understanding of FERPA and other federal compliance relevant to higher education data usage.
- Understanding of financial aid and leveraging techniques.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
