Position Announcement


Utah Valley University is seeking a dedicated professional to lead and advance its Fire Safety Program. This role offers the opportunity to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives that ensure a safe campus environment for students, employees, and visitors. As the university's primary liaison with state and local regulators, you will play a critical role in maintaining compliance, strengthening partnerships, and promoting best practices in fire prevention and life safety.

This position provides the chance to apply technical expertise and leadership to protect the UVU community through proactive education, incident investigation, and effective risk management. By guiding campus stakeholders on fire and life safety issues, you will directly contribute to a culture of safety, collaboration, and accountability that supports UVU's mission of student success and institutional excellence.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Oversees and administers the day-to-day operations of the Fire Safety program, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policies and regulations. Fire Safety program includes the inspection and testing of fire safety equipment, ie. Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarms, and Fire Sprinkler Systems. Also, manages the UVU Police Central Station /7 for fire alarm monitoring.
  • Plans, develops, and implements fire prevention procedures and protocols for university operating units, including special event life safety plans and special permits.
  • Provides professional leadership and coordination to the university community in the day-to-day execution of the Fire Safety program; interacts with university faculty and staff to correct non-compliance issues, and follows up on the implementation of corrective actions. Investigate fire-related and special event life safety incidents within UVU-owned properties.
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Investigate fire-related and special event life safety incidents within UVU-owned properties.
  • Oversees and/or coordinates the collection, compilation, and analysis of program activity data; develops, writes, and presents comprehensive statistical and narrative program reports. Assists with establishing and implementing long- and short-range department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. May supervise lower graded staff and/or student employees. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Fire Marshal and five (5) years of experience in a firefighting management role for a total of eight (8) years.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • ICC Fire Marshal Certification.
  • BS in Emergency Management, Fire Sciences, or other related field.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Fire Alarm Technician Certification
  • Fire Extinguisher Level 3&4 Certification
  • Fire Sprinkler Level II Certification

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of fire safety and prevention principles, practices, standards, and resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of crowd management and event planning
  • Knowledge and understanding of traffic management
  • Knowledge and understanding of local, State, and Federal fire/safety regulations and codes.
  • Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.

  • Skills in developing fire safety procedures, inspection practices, and protocols.
