Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Compliance, the Assistant Director of Compliance is responsible for the management of several key University-wide compliance functions that ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

Responsible for execution of the University-wide Minors Protection Program involving 16,000 minors and 4,500 adults in alignment with laws, regulations, and federal compliance standards.
  • Manages the independent background check process for faculty, staff, students, and volunteer engaging in minors activities, separate from University Human Resources (UHR)'s pre-hire screening process. Supports the Associate Director of Compliance in identifying results that require adjudication.
  • Directs the registration for hundreds of minors activities each year.
  • Responsible for recommending shutting down minors activities or removing individuals who do not meet compliance requirements.
  • Supports the development of minors protection training content for faculty, staff, students, and volunteers working with minors and monitors training completion status.
  • Customer Service and Stakeholder Collaboration: Supports minors activity/programs leaders and participants across the university to address diverse program challenges.


Manages the University-wide Comprehensive Policy Review program that centralizes policy development, review, and approval.
  • Executes day-to-day policy process actions to ensure thorough policy review by relevant parties and compliance with University policy standards.
  • Advises policy owners, subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders to ensure University policies are clear, informative, and current.
  • Directs related policy processes such as archiving, publishing, periodic reviews and recommends process improvement opportunities.
  • Supports the Comprehensive Policy Review Steering Committee.


Supports compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards through compliance monitoring, risk assessments, training, and reporting. The Assistant Director provides recommendations to leadership and plays a critical role in shaping the University's compliance culture.
  • Risk Management: Evaluates potential compliance risks and collaborates with various departments to implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Regulatory Updates: Monitors changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards, and engages with stakeholders to update University programs, policies, and procedures to maintain compliance.
  • Training: Supports development and delivers comprehensive compliance training programs for faculty, staff, and students.


Executes financial transactions and contracts, and works collaboratively with stakeholders on related issues. Provides compliance- and minors-related budget inputs, and oversees purchase requests.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a University environment, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience in an organization-wide compliance function preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of the federal elements of an effective compliance program; compliance and ethics professional certification preferred (e.g., CCEP).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, implement and direct complex University-wide programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement systems and develop processes.
  • Previous experience with minors protection programs preferred.
  • Previous experience with policy management preferred.
  • Knowledge of Workday, Jaggaer, AuditBoard, Drupal, and Ideal-Logic Youth Safety & Compliance systems preferred.
