Position Announcement
Utah Valley University (UVU) is pleased to announce an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Healthcare Administration. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of dedicated professionals in the Department of Health Sciences.
The new faculty member will teach a variety of undergraduate courses, including but not limited to; healthcare economics, revenue cycle management, healthcare finance, healthcare law, healthcare administration, health systems. With teaching responsibilities of 12 credits per semester, this role is a vital part of preparing students for impactful careers in healthcare administration.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to produce scholarly work, provide service to the department, college and university. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to upholding professional and ethical standards, as well as a passion for fostering a student-centered educational experience that aligns with UVU's mission of student success.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Designs, plans, and teaches nutrition courses, with the possibility of other courses as determined by the department. Instructs and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms through online, face-to-face, live-streaming, and hybrid modalities, including lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, individualized instruction, and other appropriate methods. Prepares instructional materials including writing assignments, examinations, outlines, syllabi, visual aids, and presentations as necessary. Participates in Program Learning Outcomes and assessment. Evaluates, documents, and maintains accurate records of student accountability, attendance, and performance.
- Assists with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment, student selection and retention, advisement, developing new course materials and delivery techniques, writing accreditation and compliance reports, and establishing and maintaining clinical sites and experiences for students (as assigned). Works to expand the university's nutrition course offerings and programs.
- Develops an active research agenda that may involve students, resulting in presentations and publications. Continues professional development as evidenced by research, publication, and involvement in associations and continuing education. Participates/presents at state and national conferences, professional development activities, workshops, seminars, and industry meetings.
- Provides service to the department, college, university, and community by serving on various committees as assigned. Attends and actively participates in college events, department and division meetings, and Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) committees. Obtain and maintain licensure as required. Mentors part-time faculty.
- Establishes and maintains office hours and advises students during this time and other times as needed and appropriate. Supports and embodies exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results, as well as UVU's Mission. Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with master's degree in healthcare administration, business, organizational leadership, or closely related academic field. Must have post-secondary teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate level preferred. At least three years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience. Evidence of scholarly research
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas is desirable: healthcare finance, revenue cycle management, healthcare economics, strategic planning, healthcare law, healthcare policy, population health, Intro to healthcare administration, quality and safety in healthcare.
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content pertinent to healthcare administration.
- Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems.
- Interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Curriculum development skills.
- Soft skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Department of Health Sciences.
- Specific interest in teaching introductory courses, potentially involving collaboration with Concurrent Enrollment instructors.
- Teaching pedagogy in a variety of delivery formats
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
- Ability to work independently, ethically, and professionally.
- Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
- Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
- Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas.
Ability to assist academic advisors, the department chairperson, and/or the program coordinators, faculty, department staff, and industry partners in maintaining effective programs.
