Job Summary
The School of Public Affairs (SPA) and Department of Family and Consumer Studies (FCS) at the University of Utah seek a motivated, public service minded professional to join our administrative team. This position will have immediate shared responsibilities across four professional graduate programs, including the SPA's Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), and Master of Science in International Affairs and Global Enterprise (MIAGE), and FCS's online Master of Financial Planning and Counseling (FPC).
The ideal candidate will be professional, student-focused, a team player, and self-motivated with a demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to all populations. Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for working within the noted graduate programs through activities associated with the major functions listed below. The position frequently interacts with prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, and other University staff and must collaborate across campus units and offices (e.g., Scheduling, Admissions, Curriculum Administration, Registrar, Scholarships and Financial Aid, Income Accounting, UConnect, The Graduate School, and other academic departments). Candidates must have strong communication and organizational skills and be comfortable working with those from varied backgrounds.
The School of Public Affairs (publicaffairs.utah.edu) is a newly-established department level academic unit, offering three professional graduate degrees aimed at fostering ethical, purpose-driven leaders for the public, nonprofit, and private sectors. The Department of Family and Consumer Studies (fcs.utah.edu) is an interdisciplinary academic unit with a mission to advance, communicate, and apply knowledge regarding human development and family well-being across the lifespan and within community and societal contexts.
This position carries in-person expectations with flexibility for some remote work and a schedule to be determined upon hiring. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
The Graduate Student Coordinator II position is 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), and eligible for full health, retirement, and additional benefits. Pay range as noted is compensation for 40-hour work week and commensurate with experience.
This position will remain open until filled; however, priority will be given to complete applications received on or before August 15, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Advising and other administrative tasks in support of graduate students, including (but not limited to), record-keeping, program of study coordination, scheduling, course-planning, graduation tracking.
- Collecting and disseminating information to students, faculty and departments about changes in degree requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
- Advising on graduate committee development. May assign coursework for specific program of study.
- Provides input and administrative support to the units on course scheduling and instructional staffing. Helps coordinate adjunct faculty recruitment, onboarding, and on-the-job facilitation.
- Providing curriculum feedback and support at the program(s) level, including submission of department curriculum changes to university-wide curriculum tracking.
- Power user for university-wide application review platforms, including coordination and organization of admission portfolios for graduate committees, processing of graduate school applications and coordination of applications review and admissions.
- Coordination and organization of scholarship opportunities and portfolios for scholarship committees.
- Participation in recruitment activities for potential graduate student candidates.
- Participation in events management related to graduate programs, graduate student orientation, relevant professional association conferences and events, and other educational and/or professional development events.
- Acts as a resource for graduate student roles and is a liaison between the department and the Graduate School on campus.
- May participate in search committees for new hires in department, including both staff and faculty roles.
- May participate in programming communities for students within their area. Including, but not limited to activities such as overseeing a mentoring program, student organization, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
2 years' of related experience.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills
