OIT Finance and Business Operations (FBO) encourages applications for a Senior Financial Analyst! What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Lead for Sponsored Project Accounting
  • Primary contact for the Office of Contracts & Grants (OCG) and Research Financial Services (RFS), and the Campus Controller's Office (CCO) on all sponsored project and cost-share financial matters.
  • Maintains awareness of changing fiscal rules with regards to sponsored projects and shares key changes with the rest of FBO and relevant OIT departmental units.
  • Supervises all OIT sponsored projects and associated data, including budgets, start and end dates, project numbers, speedtypes, etc.
  • Uses electronic Research Administration (eRA) system to gather all pertinent information for OIT sponsored projects and cost-share projects and train others in FBO when necessary.
  • Assists with and/or performs sponsored project related post-award functions, including award set up budget distributions, expense monitoring, periodic invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate and timely month-end, quarterly, and year-end close reports and financial information following prescribed timelines.
  • Coordinate restricted funds and special funding arrangements (ex. Financial Futures, president's initiatives, consortium or multi-unit agreements).
  • Build status reports and plan to actual or variance reports to central campus and system for initiative funding.
Senior Level Accounting and Reconciliation
  • Maintain and reconcile OIT departmental revenue and expenditure budgets to provide monthly snapshots of budget conformance, funding status, and profit & loss statements for directors and program managers.
  • Work with the Assistant Director to proactively develop, implement and continuously refine OIT financial constructs and organizing principles and resulting reports/analyses, which enable optimal decision making at all levels of the organization.
  • Find and resolve problems within financial activity, including purchases, salaries and revenues. If problems are related to factors outside of OIT control, connect with appropriate University unit (including CCO, University Information Services (UIS), Procurement Service Center (PSC), etc.) or outside vendor contacts to determine resolution.
  • Collect revenues for OIT's fee-for-service programs. Consistently connect with program managers to ensure the appropriate clients and amounts are being billed. Be able to interact with OIT's customers and to explain the purpose of the service being billed or the methodology used in determining the charge.
Strategic and Analytical Support
  • Provide proactive and strategic support to OIT directors and managers on high-level and sophisticated issues involving OIT programs, including resource allocation, data analysis, long-term planning, research and interpretation of rules, audit preparation, and budget conformance.
  • Assist in determining annual budget needs and in identifying any potential alternative sources of funding for OIT programs.
  • Use advanced Microsoft Access and Excel functionality to illustrate, analyze, and model fiscal concepts and financial trends for assigned area.
  • Apply appropriate budget principles to develop "what if" budget scenarios for use by the finance team.
  • Ensure directors and managers are aware of budget changes, overages or available fund balances, verify the validity of any remaining budgeted purchases or new unbudgeted items, and consistently update internal financial records with anticipated activity to enable OIT leadership to make strategic budget decisions. Provide analytical support to the Assistant Director on high-level and/or sophisticated issues of funding model design and resources allocation.
Conduct OIT Rate-Setting Processes
  • Using input from OIT program managers and using OMB A-21 rules as interpreted by the CCO, create rates for OIT fee-for-service offerings to customers on an annual basis. Consult with the CCO regarding any potential policy violations. Confirm that OIT program managers are aware of any rate changes, including amounts to charge to University vs non-University customers.
  • Act as a resource for strategic, policy or compliance questions. Assist with any potential audit requests.
  • Complete annual submissions for CCO and Finance and Business Strategy (FBS) for OIT fee-for-service programs within portfolio.

  • Salary: $76,602 - $86,160.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in business administration, accounting, finance, natural/social sciences, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years of experience in accounting or finance, which includes at least two (2) years of experience in post-award sponsored project or grant accounting.


What You Will Need

  • Strong digital literacy in productivity software, particularly MS Excel, Access, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability and experience working with departmental staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve complex reconciliation and to work independently to resolve issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
