About the Position:

This position is crucial for the teaching mission of the department. The primary purpose for this position is setting up laboratories for instruction, and assisting with two multi-section introductory lab courses in the fall with a total enrollment of about 300 students, and two multi-section introductory lab courses in the Spring with a total enrollment of about 280 students. Total annual enrollment of lab courses which this position assists is about 580 students. The position is for 30 hours per week from August 15 through May 15 annually; however initial employment will begin on August 1, 2025 to allow for training prior to the 2025 fall semester.

Essential Functions:

  • Obtaining supplies available locally; grocery, natural habitats, gardens

  • Receiving and organizing supplies obtained through science supply vendors

  • Setting up equipment and materials for students use

  • Cleaning and storing lab supplies after use

  • Maintaining equipment, and live specimens


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma is required. Candidate with Bachelor's degree is preferred.

A minimum of one year of experience is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in multiple biology disciplines, the basic technical skills associated with these disciplines, and the ability to analyze results. Candidate must possess basic mechanical and electrical skills to maintain laboratory equipment. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
