This position is responsible for supervision of all Campus Public Safety shift activities for the Seattle University - Department of Public Safety.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supervise and coordinate all shift workload and schedules of one to twelve campus public safety officers to provide adequate shift coverage.
  • Patrol University property on foot. In communications center, monitor alarm systems, answer and provide appropriate responses to emergency and business related telephone calls.
  • Provide escort services for campus community. Initiate incident reports and conduct preliminary investigations.
  • Complete accurate logs and records of all security related activities.
  • Dispatch security personnel via radio.
  • Provide necessary on-the-job training and guidance to assure that personnel operate within established policy and procedures.
  • Communicate with on-call campus public safety administrators, and/or other university administrators when necessary.

Marginal Job Functions
  • Develop and consult with campus community members.
  • Perform some patrol and escort functions with the use of a vehicle.
  • Provide support and supervision to other areas of the department such as Emergency Management and part-time student operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma plus one year security experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Minimum of six months security experience in a higher education environment.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Ability to: perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, walking and running significant distances; restrain and take into custody another person; receive self defense training; lift or otherwise move up to the weight of a person; climb stairs; occasionally work at heights above 30 feet; perform duties in confined space; to perform duties in varying outdoor weather conditions; to complete incident reports; to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, on the radio, and in written documents; to give or take direction in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age in order to legally enter a licensed or unlicensed drinking establishment to enforce rules and regulations.

  • All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous supervisory experience in a Higher Education security environment.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $58,000 - $61,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
