Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University invites applications for an Advisor/Retention Specialist in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP).

CAMP is a federally funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds during their first year of college. The program provides students with financial assistance and support services, with the goal of preparing them to continue their education at a four year-college or university.

The Advisor/Retention Specialist for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant is responsible for providing academic support services necessary to ensure the success and retention of students participating in the College Assistance Migrant Program. This position is primarily responsible for mentoring/tutoring services, academic and student support, orientation programs, communication with EWU faculty and staff about CAMP students and other related duties such as coordination, scheduling and monitoring program activities.

In the course of performing the positions duties, this position will have extensive involvement with students, staff and the public in carrying out program activities, and will coordinate, schedule and monitor program activities to determine consistency with program goals. Position reports directly to the Director of the CAMP.

The salary for this position is $43,988 (minimum) up to $52,788. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
  • Valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and clear driving record (no restrictions, no DUI or other convictions).
  • Bachelors degree
  • Knowledgeable of academic advising and student support services
  • Competent skills in Zoom, Microsoft Oce (Word, Outlook, Exceletc.), and other essential software needed for day-to-day use
  • Experience working and communicating with diverse populations with the goal of creating a more inclusive community
  • Leadership and advocacy experience
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Experience in event planning
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual language skills (Spanish and English)
  • CAMP or Migrant Seasonal Farm working or First-Generation Background

Job Duties:
Recruitment & Outreach:
  • Provide academic advising and program planning assistance to student
  • Organize CAMP math tutoring services
  • Consult with faculty, sta and administration to maintain updated knowledge of university programs, information and procedures
  • Assist in designing and implementing CAMP peer mentor program
  • Build and sustain ongoing relationships with students that enhance the student/university connection
  • Conduct group presentations for new students
  • Assist with recruitment eorts and events which may include travel
  • Assist in presenting and keeping attendance during CAMP Seminar
  • Assess and maintain student records and set up scheduling appointments
  • Attend sta and informational meetings
  • Interpret university policies, procedures and requirements to students
  • Determine student academic needs and refer to appropriate services
  • Design and write informational materials for new students
  • Assist with annual CAMP Student Orientation and other CAMP annual events
  • Attend Professional Development training which may include travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Project Director

Conditions of Employment:
Extensive travel within Washington State, Oregon, and Idaho will be required, primarily during the fall and spring. Travel at other times of year may also be required to fulfill job responsibilities. Trips will include same-day trips, overnight, and multi-day trips. As a result, the following are all requirements for the job:
  1. Candidate hired for the position must have a valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and clear driving record (no restrictions, no DUI or other convictions).
  2. Consistent access to a personal vehicle; note: use of a personal vehicle is reimbursed in accordance with rates as specified within university policy.
  3. Flexibility to travel as needed to fulfill job responsibilities, and as specified by supervisor.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
