Assistant or Associate Professor of Sport Management; or Professor of Practice

Syracuse University invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure eligible) of Sport Management; or Professor of Practice to begin August 2014. The Department of Sport Management is located in Syracuse University's David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and offers a B.A. degree in Sport Management and an M.S. in Sport Venue and Event Management. A professional or teaching and research background in the areas of sport facilities and/or event management is desirable. A record of demonstrated teaching competence and scholarly accomplishment at the collegiate level is required.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate instruction in the Department of Sport Management. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will conduct individual and collaborative research relative to one's field of interest; help coordinate on-campus practicum and off-campus internships; advise students that includes course selection and strategic career planning; become an active participant in scholarly activities and community service; and effectively handle other responsibilities associated with being a faculty member. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other academic units and departments across the College, campus, and the local, regional and national sport industry.

For a tenure eligible position, an earned doctorate in sport management or a related field is required. The Professor of Practice appointment requires a minimum ten (10) years of intensive and appropriate industry experience in sport management, with an earned graduate degree. Appointment to faculty rank (open) is possible given an appropriate level of scholarship and teaching. Teaching, research and/or professional industry expertise with a focus on facilities and/or event management is preferable. The overriding requirement for faculty appointment, reappointment and promotion within the University Tenure Line must be distinguished performance and the promise of distinguished performance.

Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics brings together Syracuse University's professional programs in Child and Family Studies, Public Health, Nutrition and Food Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, and Sport Management in an environment of cross-disciplinary teaching, research, practice, and service.
