Job Description
The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District is seeking an energetic, customer service-minded Web Applications Specialist to join the District's Information Technology (IT) department. The selected candidate will be working in a shared governance environment to assist various departments with web design, web administration, and related web database functionality to achieve exciting new website initiatives. One of the new projects will be the design, development and administration of a new Microsoft SharePoint site that has influence from both colleges in the District. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a diverse team in advancing web technology solutions in a higher education environment to better serve our students.

SUMMARY:
  • Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, administer, develop, plan, program and implement a variety of aspects relating to the college or district websites, related web-based instructional activities, instructional materials, and institutionally-adopted software. Provide technical assistance and advice on web design/applications to faculty and staff utilizing web information and online instructional modalities. Collaborate effectively with college and district administration, college instructional computing services and faculty, marketing personnel, approved vendors, contractors, and District Information Systems personnel. Work under limited supervision within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures, including Federal, State and college requirements pertaining to accessibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Administer, design, implement and maintain the official college or district web sites.
  • Administer, implement, and maintain the institutionally-adopted learning management system and supplementary apps.
  • Administer and maintain SharePoint.
  • Conduct analysis of user needs for learning management systems, web sites, and SharePoint sites.
  • Prepare web pages using the current tools for content management and web scripting languages.
  • Serve as primary resource to ensure that Federal, State and college web-based accessibility standards for the disabled are met.
  • Assist and support faculty and staff with web presentation tools and methodology, and online course management strategies utilizing institutionally-adopted web-based software packages.
  • Work with administrative personnel and faculty for the creation, design and implementation of web pages.
  • Act as a primary contact person for user questions related to the functionality of the college or district web sites and assist in analyzing problems and/or debugging.
  • Act as primary contact person for user questions related to administrative offices, instructional departments, and general college inquiries.
  • Communicate with staff to resolve problems, research solutions, consult with vendors, and prepare documentation.
  • Demonstrate and utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Utilize strong graphic design skills and abilities.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
  • Provide design input, implementation and maintenance of web-based instructional activities.
  • Implement and maintain web-based multi-media, including audio, video and software tools.
  • Administer, maintain, and provide faculty and staff assistance for use and operation of institutionally-adopted/supported applications of software and operating systems.
  • Design, develop, and deliver workshops, training, or instructional materials to staff and faculty in the use of software technologies and meeting accessibility compliance requirements for web sites.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve issues with supported applications.
  • Monitor and report progress of projects.
  • Participate on, and provide technical assistance to District and College committees.
  • Maintain currency in new and emerging computing and educational technologies, including software, data storage, etc.
  • Attend job-related courses and seminars to maintain state-of-the-art technological knowledge, particularly as applied to curriculum, instruction and web pages.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of on-line course and web-related workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Train faculty and staff in the design and development of web pages, SharePoint sites and instructional materials.
  • Use a variety of software proficiently (e.g., word processing, graphics, presentation, spreadsheet, database, multimedia authoring tools, etc.) in both Windows and Macintosh environment.
  • Operate and install software.
  • Understand and independently carry out oral and written instructions. Apply task analysis methodologies.
  • Analyze user needs for online software use. Prioritize tasks and projects using established criteria and meet scheduled time lines.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn, interpret and successfully apply college policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Assimilate new software releases.
  • Maintain currency of qualifications for area of assignment.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's Degree with course work in computer science, educational technology, or a related field, course work or certificate in web page development & design, and at least two years of demonstrated web page development and design experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Office environment; subject to lifting, moving and installing computer equipment; subject to eyestrain from computer.
