Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: August 16, 2018

RESPONSIBILITIES: We are looking for a one-year visiting professor in Early Childhood, Literacy. August 16, 2018 to May 14, 2019. You will teach courses in the area of early childhood and literacy in our teacher education program. Course instruction primarily with our undergraduate, but may include a graduate course.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned Master's degree in early childhood education, literacy, or related field from a U.S. regionally accredited institution of higher learning
A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in PreK-6 schools in the United States.
Informed understandings of developmentally appropriate methods for teaching in early childhood education and literacy assessment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D in early childhood education, literacy, or related field.
Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in teacher preparation programs.
Demonstrated ability to actively collaborate and communicate with colleagues and the community.
Experience in working with diverse student populations.
Experience in online instruction.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers undergraduate programs in Elementary Education, Middle Level Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education and a dual program in Special Education and Elementary Education.We also offer graduate programs in Reading (leading to the Reading Specialist and Reading Teacher endorsements), Special Education (including a track for certified teachers seeking an endorsement in special education, a track for special education teachers seeking advanced coursework, and a separate endorsement program), and Curriculum and Instruction (including two areas of specialization in literacy education and elementary curriculum offered entirely online).

The goal of each undergraduate and graduate program is to assist candidates in developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to positively impact P-12 student learning. To achieve this goal, we offer coursework and a variety of field experiences that focus on the use of evidence-based practices, differentiated instruction, technology, and varied assessments to plan and implement instruction in ways that promote student growth and achievement.

Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,332): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
