Salary: Starting salary range of $49,051 - $53,956 is based on the Lee College Administrative/Administrative Support Salary Scale, C43. Placement on scale is commensurate with education and experience.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Veterans' Center Coordinator assists veterans and active duty personnel and their families in applying for military educational benefits, development of educational plans, academic advising, and in providing college and community resources related to the needs of the veterans and their families (e.g., medical/dental services, mental health services, employment opportunities, academic support such as tutoring, etc.). The coordinator expedites the entry into the workforce as appropriate or to successfully transfer into a Bachelor's program and make appropriate referrals to other agencies.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide information and advisement concerning VA education benefits to students and their families.
  • Advise, interpret, and implement state and federal regulations for a variety of educational benefits through the VA, Department of Defense, and the State of Texas; assist with the application of funds.
  • As required for educational benefits, develop and implement an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student, including a thorough evaluation of previous credit (military or civilian) and a plan for graduation.
  • Provide information and VA/community resources for eligible veterans and dependents (to include mental health services). Also, refer students to support services such as tutoring and financial aid.
  • Provide general advising, which may include admission procedures, interpretation of test scores, course selections, program and graduation requirements, registration procedures, and transferability of coursework as mandated by state policies.
  • Responsible for VA reporting and certification which includes audits from three (3) agencies (VA, Department of Defense, and the State of Texas).
  • Collaborate with community partners for possible funding and/or employment opportunities (e.g., Exxon tour for veteran students).
  • Manage/Supervise the Veterans' Center staff that includes the administrative assistant and part-time employees.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent the College with local, state, and federal organizations relating to veterans affairs.
  • Assist with outreach, recruitment, and employment.
  • Assist with helping veterans obtain the best financial combination of educational benefits available to them, including federal financial aid.
  • Assist with new student orientation and other college processes.
  • Provide updated information to staff about veteran culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors (or higher) degree
  • Two (2) years of experience working with veterans in a post-secondary or military educational setting
  • One (1) year of experience in academic advising or support within a college setting
  • Four (4) years of prior military duty
  • Knowledge of veterans educational benefits and application procedures for veterans and their dependents
  • Knowledge of veterans issues that affect learning and reentry in civilian life
  • Must be available to work a flexible work schedule with mandatory evenings and weekends
