Systems Design Specialist (DevOps Developer)

The Web Applications Team in Infrastructure, a unit of Enterprise IT, is looking for a highly motivated and specialized System Design Specialist with passion for providing professional customer service and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will work as a member of our Web Applications team in support of University-wide systems and services. Responsibilities include the design, development, configuration, and administration of highly available web application software and clustered deployments; design for performance, scale, and high availability; perform performance testing; implement the latest IT and security best practices for modern infrastructure and software management (e.g., Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, containerization); collaborate with the virtualization team to design, build and improve current technologies and implement new virtualization technologies; provide systems integration expertise during the design/development phase to integrate cloud platforms; automate routine and repetitive tasks to streamline operations and create efficiencies. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The required knowledge, skills and behaviors for this position include: Collaborating with and supporting peer team members; strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation for teams, knowledge base, and training; be proactive in providing superior customer service to groups that depend on the systems; have a strong desire to analyze/diagnose problems, be flexible, and maintain critical thinking abilities under pressure; possess strong time-management and organizational skills; have experience working with Python, Perl, Bash, or other scripting languages; and have experience with production systems administration on Linux-based platforms.
