This is an exempt, 52 weeks per year position. General working hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, in support of college events and breaking news.

Madison College offers a generous benefit program including health and dental benefits. The employee selected will serve a twelve (12) month introductory period. This position does not offer a relocation package.

SUMMARY:

The Social Media Strategist is responsible for leading and developing comprehensive and strategic social media campaigns. Under the direct supervision of the content manager, the social media strategist will deliver targeted and specific messages to recruit prospective students and increase engagement and enrollments.

Primary duties include development and implementation of an annual strategic social media plan; ongoing collaboration with the Marketing and Public Relations team to ensure social media content aligns with the department's efforts to enhance the Madison College brand; remaining up-to-date on social media best practices in higher education and beyond.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop an annual strategic social media plan that aligns with overall marketing and public relations goals. Coordinate multiple databases, electronic and other forms of social communication; reports for research and trend analysis; seek and develop new ideas and strategies; write reports outlining enrollment-driving initiatives and results; and identify and implement measures that enhance enrollment goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the creative team to discover and implement social content that adheres to best practices and pushes the creative envelope. Work with Senior Digital Media Relations Specialist to provide cross-functional support of earned and social media stories.
  • Serve as a resident thought leader in social media, providing expertise through ongoing updates and training in best practices, new trends and innovations across multiple social platforms.
  • Coordinate scheduled social media messaging, monitor its performance and evaluate user response. Develop and distribute weekly, monthly and yearly reports, as appropriate, to cross-functional team, including: weekly enrollment data, web and social media analytics, social media spending/ROI and social media strategic plan assessments.
  • Support paid interactive marketing efforts and provide regular maintenance to campaigns, messaging and strategy.
  • Provide brand ambassadorship expertise and training to partners across the college to stimulate brand comprehension and broader engagement in the community through social media. Provide training and direction to all social media page owners and the broader Madison College community on social media best practices and policies, while ensuring said policy reflects best practices and leadership-driven mandates. Meet with internal college clients to provide recommendations and expertise that drives effective social media marketing.
  • Work with the Madison College recruitment team to promote critical information about admissions, to support special events and to deliver enrollment-driving content across social media platforms.
  • Recruit and manage a team of social media interns.
  • Partner with and provide social media expertise to the Community Outreach team to support their events and initiatives.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules.Engages positively with colleagues, handles conflict directly and professionally, contributes to team discussions, collaborates and helps colleagues, assumes the best from colleagues, provides and accepts constructive feedback, follows through on commitments, and supports final decisions that are made.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge and experience in developing and executing effective social media campaigns. Strong digital storytelling skills demonstrated across multiple platforms. Excellent understanding and proficiency in all major social media platforms, reports and scheduling tools.
  • Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust.
  • Superior interpersonal skills in managing conversations with the general public, outside community agencies and colleagues in a dynamic environment. Sensitivity to and an understanding of the needs of community college students.
  • Effective problem-solving skills. Skill in team building, resolving problems and conflict and defending best practices. Exercises good judgment at all times, especially when managing comments and messages from the college and wider community.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and in collaboration with multiple teams. Ability to autonomously plan and organize social media initiatives that contribute to the success of the unit and college.
  • Ability to plan, organize, promote and implement group events, educational workshops and programs. Experience developing and delivering persuasive presentations to diverse internal and external audiences.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in marketing related field OR four (4) years (8,000 hours) of directly related work experience.

*Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of direct experience in leading an organization's social media efforts. Experience developing and implementing social media campaigns and strategic plans. Experience working for a large organization in tactical implementation of social media. In-depth understanding of major social media platforms for both paid and non-paid campaigns.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ideal candidate has 3-5 years of direct experience leading an organization's social media across multiple platforms.
  • 3-5 years of experience creating and curating social media content for an organization.
  • Experience developing and implementing social media campaigns and strategic plans.
  • Experience working for a large organization in tactical implementation of social media.
  • In-depth understanding of major social media platforms for both paid and non-paid campaigns.
  • Believes in the positive impacts social media can wield and wants to help others get excited about it too!
