The College's Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) plays a vital role in helping the organization achieve its mission and strategic goals, including its overarching commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. IE services range from supporting development of the Seattle Colleges Strategic Plan 2017-23 to creating systems for continuous improvement and learning to conducting applied research and analysis to inform decision-making at North Seattle College and across the Seattle College District.

We are searching for a Senior Research Analyst who will help us achieve our equity goals as a Seattle Colleges District and contribute significantly to data driven decision making at North Seattle College. This full-time, exempt position will work in a team of two researchers (this Senior Research Analyst position and the Executive Director of Institutional Research) at North Seattle College and as part of a larger team across the Seattle Colleges District. The Senior Research Analyst is a team player who develops, conducts, and coordinates institutional research activities, including data collection/tracking systems and analytical methodologies across a wide range of topics and reporting needs. This work requires collaboration and engagement with a diverse group of administrators, faculty, and staff from across the college, including the Central and South campuses and Seattle Colleges District Office and the state board data analysis team.

This position provides support for the college's institutional effectiveness efforts including equity strategic planning, operational planning, program review, accreditation, assessment, grants and other special initiatives. This position will also perform data analysis including disaggregating data, reporting and strategic planning support for Seattle Colleges District as needed. The Senior Research Analyst will communicate with and provide reports for many stakeholders (such as Seattle Promise, Running Start, Student Success Programs, Academic Programs) across campus and district such as survey analysis, ad hoc reports, and enrollment reports. What you will be working on:
  • Work closely with college constituents to meet ongoing and emerging data reporting needs, including data and analysis in support of strategic and operational planning and assessment, program planning and review, and grant reporting.
  • Provide data, analysis, and methodological expertise to the college's continuous improvement efforts, and in support of grant applications and other institutional initiatives.
  • Assist in designing measures for performance outcomes to assess progress toward achievement of college-wide goals and objectives.
  • Develop and support disaggregation of data, survey administration, analysis, and result dissemination.
  • Post research studies to the institutional research website and work closely with college and district web teams to develop reports and dashboards for a variety of audiences and purposes.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with the Seattle College District institutional research team to design and implement common methodologies for data definition, extraction, and analysis for those research needs that are shared across the college and be able to work independently and self-teach on individual college projects.
  • Collaborate with campus and district IT staff to evaluate, acquire, and implement new technologies for data warehousing, analysis, and display.
  • Participate in developing institutional policies, procedures and practices related to the collection, analysis, and management of data.
  • Monitor and submit accurate external reporting such as Gainful Employment, Title III eligibility document, Grants, etc.
  • Serve on college-wide committees as needed.
  • Participate in the activities of the Research and Planning Commission of the WA State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)


Technical competencies and training:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social science or related field that includes coursework in statistics.
  • Strong knowledge in data manipulation and Institutional Research work place duties.
  • Demonstrated experience in, and extensive knowledge of, analysis and assessment using statistics and applied research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience disaggregating data and viewing data with a racial equity lens.
  • Demonstrated competence with statistical software, spreadsheets, pivot tables, and database querying software, complex relational databases, data warehousing, data management, and development of queries in PeopleSoft or similar Enterprise Resource Planning system to extract data from multiple, complex data sets
  • Demonstrated usage of SQL or other program language to extract and merge complex data sets
  • Experience with developing data dashboards using Tableau
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement quality control measures to ensure accuracy of deliverables
  • Experience creating documents, spreadsheets, databases and report writing software to prepare reports and present statistical analysis;

  • Demonstrated ability to do independent work and be a self-starter
  • Experience prioritizing multiple tasks and projects to meet ongoing and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and make appropriate decisions or judgments relating to complex research projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond effectively to end users' data needs.

Interpersonal and communication skills:
  • Demonstrated excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain successful and effective relationships with a diverse, multicultural staff and student population.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively convey complex ideas and information using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience.


Physical Requirements
Ability to perform range of physical motions; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
