Reports to:Assistant Controller
Description:This position is in the Business Office and is primarily responsible for fund accounting, operational accounting and audit functions. This includes restricted, fixed asset, debt and endowment funds, as well as general accounting and auditing.
Responsibilities:
Assemble and analyze data and transactions applying generally accepted accounting principles.
Originate and input journal entries for restricted, fixed asset, debt and endowment funds. Annually roll forward these fund balances.
Assist university faculty and staff by responding to accounting questions, researching problems, and providing requested informational reports.
Account for the University's restricted, fixed asset and debt funds in accordance with University policy, GAAP, and the restrictions of donors, including maintaining detailed records, required reporting, pledge accounting, and providing information to Advancement as requested for donor and foundation reporting.
Manage year-end audit preparation for the restricted fund, debt and endowment fund including reconciliations, work papers, allocations, report generation and other audit work as assigned.
Provide internal audit support including review of A/P invoices, expense reports, credit card statements, journal entries, purchase orders, and revenue recognition.
Completion of surveys and reporting of financial information to outside agencies and governmental bodies.
Supervise Accounts Payable Coordinator and Staff Accountant.
Set-up and maintain internet portal webpages for Business Office and online credit card payments.
Provide internal audit support of payroll liability transactions.
Assist in projects relative to finance operations, process improvements and technology as assigned.
Perform payroll account reconciliations.
Serve as project leader on accounting projects as assigned.
Perform back up duties for Business Office personnel as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required.
CPA or CPA Candidate required.
Technology Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Use software reporting for data input and output.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamix 365 preferred.
Human Relations Skills:
Communicate effectively verbally, in writing, in person and via the telephone.
High degree of professional discretion, integrity and good judgment.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments/projects simultaneously.
