DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Short-Term, Non-Continuing Program Specialist for our English as a Second Language Program.

This is a temporary, non-continuing position that is grant funded.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a Short-Term Non-Continuing (STNC), temporary, hourly position, 10-20 hours per week, $21.25 per hour; Ed Code 88003 authorizes a governing board to hire STNC employees for less than 75% of a school year, up to 180 days.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.

Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn three (3) days of sick leave per year.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalPERS Retirement (contingent upon number of hours worked within the fiscal year)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support student success and equal access by executing the following duties:

Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities and/or programs

Designs and delivers presentation and workshops as required

Serves as a liaison between Mendocino College and appropriate stakeholders

Disseminates information on program

Coordinates schedules and makes appointments for stakeholders and program resources

Participates in the department meetings, provides information and/or reports on relevant issues

Assists, follows up, and supports stakeholders regarding program processes and sourcing other available programs and services

Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files. Keeps all necessary records and submit required paperwork in a timely manner

Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer and Microsoft Office software

Attends required meetings and professional development sessions as directed by the manager

Occasionally travel to off-site locations for program needs

Perform other duties, as assigned

PROGRAM DUTIES

During the Summer 2021 session and the Fall 2021 Semester, this position will primarily provide support for students remotely. A college cell phone and laptop will be provided to support this work. Spanish speaking and other language learners in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Basic Skills (BSK) classes are in need of enrollment/registration support, ongoing student services, and assistance in accessing their studies online. This position will work to fill those specific needs arising in the online/remote environment during this academic year.

Will provide ongoing support to English as a Second Language (ESL) and Basic Skills (BSK) students.

Will coordinate with the ESL Full Time Faculty member to plan and facilitate recruitment efforts and registration support for ESL and BSK students.

Will staff the ESL Program cell phone on a weekly basis in order to meet student needs remotely.

Will create and maintain ESL Student database, social media presence, and bilingual program materials.

Will report to the Mendocino College Learning Center Director.

Will collaborate with ML-ACE staff and attend ML-ACE outreach meetings to coordinate services in the district.

This position will involve sharing information about college programs and resources available to language learners and adult learners throughout the district.

WORKING CONDITIONSOffice environment; subject to interruptions and distractions. Physical demands include sitting, reaching, bending, walking, standing for long periods, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs). Repetitive motion based on computer/filing practices use may be required. Occasional outdoor environmental exposure; including but not limited to events and/or special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.

Must have at least two years of experience in an administrative/educational environment

Bilingual in Spanish and English Required

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

AA required, BA preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Employee must possess valid Class C driver's license, and an acceptable driving record. Must have access to personal vehicle (subject to mileage reimbursement) that can safely drive throughout Lake and Mendocino Counties.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
