The anticipated starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $2,927.40 a month at a 60% time base.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Under general direction of the Director of Transfer & Transition Programs, the Reinstatement and Retention Coordinator is responsible for working as a team member with various Transfer and Transition Programs professional academic advisors and program coordinators, colleagues in the Records Office, and with the University Standards Committee to support students through the disqualification and reinstatement processes. The incumbent performs a wide variety of generally complex Student Services Professional work by providing comprehensive academic advising services to students likely to leave Sonoma State University, whether due to academic disqualification or other reasons, and returning on reinstatement. This includes collaborating with students on their academic plans and persistence, creating their academic schedules, assisting in declaring a major, performing other academic activities, and assisting students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide direct academic advising to students regarding general education, degree requirements, academic standing, appropriate course selection, relevant policies and procedures, e-advising tools, and campus resources.
- Develop clear processes and tracking for students who are academically disqualified from Sonoma State University and develop educational plans for disqualified students to be reinstated.
- Provide proactive academic advising and develop pathways and resources to retain students who are at risk of being academically disqualified.
- Advise students on coursework they need to complete at another institution, the reinstatement process, and general expectations after being academically disqualified in order to return to Sonoma State University.
- Work closely with students on reinstatement application, collecting documentation, and then determining if reinstatement application meets requirements for reinstatement after academic disqualification.
- Proactively outreach to students who left Sonoma State University on academic disqualification to check progress towards reinstatement.
- Serve as point person on academic disqualification / reinstatement for students, faculty, academic advisors, and other staff and administrators.
- Assist students to engage in their learning experiences, develop accountability for their decisions, and cultivate an understanding of how those decisions impact their success.
- Coordinate and support projects within Transfer & Transition Programs, the Advising & Transfer Center, and Student Success and Advising, including but not limited to the development, distribution, and marketing of policies and practices within the aforementioned departments, the creation and oversite of website content, and the creation and publishing of student-facing advising resources.
- Serve as ex-officio on Academic Standards Committee while working closely with committee members to ensure students' have all necessary documentation for a decision to be made on reinstatement.
- Provide comprehensive holistic, proactive, and meaningful guidance for students on acclimating to their new academic lifestyle and building supportive personal environments and best practices to facilitate their student success.
- Empower students to create and maintain effective connections within Sonoma State University.
- Maintain confidential and objective advising records.
- Participate in Orientations.
- Participate on department, division, and campus advisory committees and task forces as appropriate.
- Considerable administrative planning to recognize specific program needs, then develop and present creative solutions that integrate approaches across organizational lines.
- Assignments requiring the application of a generally high degree of judgement, tact, persuasiveness, imagination, professional skills, and knowledge in academic advising, as well as a general understanding of the interrelationships and the need for coordinated action within the department, division, and university.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties take place primarily in an office setting located at Sonoma State University, however may include working indoors and outdoors when necessary to support the department. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule, however, you must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance, as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel, by automobile and airplane, and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours with overnight stays.

Qualifications
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to
which assigned may be preferred, but is not required. This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience.

Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior, and the ability to articulate the purpose of Student Affairs, student success, and academic advising programs. General knowledge of the practices, procedures, and trends in Student Affairs, student success, and academic advising programs, with demonstrated experience and knowledge of programs and resources that support the persistence and academic success of college students, particularly at risk student populations. General knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities which the position is assigned. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Google Suite required. Knowledge of databases, student information systems, and PeopleSoft preferred. EAB Student Success Collaborative preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish highly preferred.

- Develop positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Learn and effectively apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SSU policies and procedures.

- Make decisions within established parameters, regulations, and guidelines; and recommend changes in procedures to address student support needs.

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
