Job Description:

Madison College is now accepting applications to join our dynamic custodial staff. We are seeking energetic and dedicated individuals who can provide high-quality cleaning and light maintenance throughout the District. These are part-time, non-exempt, 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year positions. The starting wage is $15.35 per hour, plus a shift differential of $1.00 per hour for all hours worked between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. Available positions and hours will vary.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This is manual work associated directly with the performance of a variety of custodial tasks. Work at this level is differentiated from that of other custodial positions by the degree of effort required to perform duties and degree of independence under which this position performs these duties. This position receives work from the custodial supervisor or custodial lead workers; does not lead the work of other custodians of the same level, and is not the only custodial worker assigned to a specific building.

This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor and may receive additional direction from his/her respective custodial lead worker for non-routine, emergency tasks as necessary to provide services commensurate with this position. This position may also direct the work of and receive assistance from student help, temporary help, or work study personnel.

Essential Duties:

The following are duties typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1. Performs general routine cleaning duties within the Madison College facilities to include but not limited to the following:
  • Dusts, sweeps and mops all hard floors.
  • Vacuums and spot clean carpeted surfaces and rugs.
  • Cleans and empties all waste receptacles.
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes all furniture, desks and cabinets.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and fixtures.
  • Cleans up spills and other messes as required.
  • Strips, mops and waxes all hard floors.
  • Deep cleans all floors, furniture and other surfaces as required.
  • Cleans and dusts woodwork, walls and fixtures.
  • Cleans and spot cleans all windows.
  • Cleans all entrances, lobbies, lounges and exit areas.
  • Cleans and shampoos carpets and rugs.
  • Places and cleans walk off mats as needed.


2. Performs general routine non-cleaning duties within the Madison College facilities to include, but not limited to the following:
  • Performs room set-ups and tear-downs for scheduled events.
  • Opens/closes building as required.
  • Restocks and maintains inventory levels of custodial supplies.
  • Picks-up and sorts recyclable materials.
  • Performs shipping and receiving duties for campus materials.
  • Assists with snow removal as required.
  • Assists with grounds clean-up.
  • Assists with minor general grounds and yard work.
  • Completes work orders and other administrative paper work.


3. Demonstrates a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of basic math.

2. Knowledge of basic electricity.

3. Knowledge of basic plumbing.

4. Knowledge of proper use of hand and small power tools and custodial equipment, (vacuums, auto scrubbers, extractors, rotary floor cleaners, shop vacuums, and other miscellaneous equipment) associated with custodial tasks.

5. Knowledge of basic safety procedures associated with custodial tasks.

6. Knowledge of basic microcomputers.

7. Skill in dealing courteously and tactfully with students and the public.

8. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

9. Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.

10. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

11. Ability to work on feet for entire shift.

Qualifications:

1. HS Diploma, GED or equivalent.

2. Six (6) months of work experience, directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
