Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $4,477 a month.

Conditions of Employment
This is a full time, temporary, exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Senior Director of the Center for Academic Access & Student Enrichment, the PUERTA and CAASE Advisor is responsible for working as a team member with fellow PUERTA and CAASE advisors to provide direct student services to PUERTA and CAASE students who are first-generation, low-income, and/or from underrepresented minority populations. As appropriate, PUERTA and CAASE advisors meet with CAASE alumni and prospective applicants not yet attending the University concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, choice of major, and other academic activities, to assist in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advise PUERTA and CAASE students regarding general education requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources.
- Help PUERTA and CAASE students define and develop realistic educational plans.
- Guide PUERTA and CAASE students through the various pathways to declare a major.
- Closely monitor PUERTA and CAASE students to proactively identify at-risk scenarios, identify opportunities to develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies.
- Work closely with university staff to ensure that student inquiries are strategically coordinated and addressed in a timely manner, while supporting academic integrity and policies.
- Cognitively guide PUERTA and CAASE students to develop accountability for their decisions and an understanding of how those decisions affects their success.
- Provide PUERTA and CAASE students with proactive guidance on acclimating to their new academic lifestyle and building supportive personal environments and best practices to facilitate their student success.
- Empower PUERTA and CAASE students to maintain effective connections to Sonoma State University.
- Actively participate in advising initiatives and events.
- Maintain advising records and confidential student evaluation records.
- Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and programming of Summer Bridge.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties take place primarily in an office setting located at Sonoma State University, however, may include working indoors and outdoors when necessary to support events and other campus activities. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, which aligns with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee, you have some flexibility in your schedule; however, you must be available during the regular campus hours, Monday through Friday, to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your Appropriate Administrator determines your specific schedule. Evening and weekend hours may be required as determined by your supervisor to meet operational needs. This includes participating in Summer Bridge, a two-week summer residential program for incoming first-time, first-year students. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels as determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel, by automobile and airplane, and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours with overnight stays.

Qualifications
This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in admissions, one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A masters degree in a jobrelated field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Demonstrated experience and intermediate proficiency with computers, including standard office technology and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), databases and student information systems required. PeopleSoft experience preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and trends in Student Affairs and Academic Advising, with understanding of student services programs, demonstrated experience and knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices in regards to working with low-income, first generation college students.

- Learn and effectively apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SSU policies and procedures.
