Job Description:

Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part time courses for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for the 2021-2022 academic school year. Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This position instructs adult students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at the vocational, associate degree and college transfer credit levels. This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, division and college levels.

This position reports to the Department Chair - School of Health Education.

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Responsible for instruction in the (Occupational Therapy Assistant Program) including but not limited to the following courses: Pediatrics and Assistive Technology and Adaptations.
2. Plans, develops and implements instruction in assigned courses.
3. Assists and advises students who have questions with assignments, tests, grades and/or course content.
4. Evaluates student performance in courses taught by the instructor.
5. Develops and maintains curriculum in collaboration with OTA program faculty.
6. Complies with college policies and procedures regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and course advising, etc.
7. Maintains competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
8. Complies with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
9. Attends school, program and advisory committee meetings.
10. Designs curriculum, including but not limited to multicultural infusion, and instruct in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student and program needs.
11. Demonstrates a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender and disability.
2. Skilled in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods to deliver high-quality instruction (i.e., online, hybrid, and accelerated course formats, course software such as Blackboard, video, Telepresence, etc).
3. Skilled in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds and persons with physical and/or learning disabilities.
4. Skilled in oral and written communications.
5. Ability to interact with business, industry, other educational institutions, and government agencies to establish partnerships.
6. Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies and incorporate them into the classroom and curriculum.

Qualifications:
1. Occupational Therapy Assistant Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of related work of practice experience in as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
3. Hold a current license from the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services as an OTA.
4. Hold current certification with National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

* The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program has a new program requirement. The program's accrediting body - ACOTE - the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education - requires that the OTA program have an OTA on their staff by July 1, 2020.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS:
Madison College utilizes pool postings for all Part-time Instructor positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential part-time instruction positions. Part-time Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester, and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a part-time instructor vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.
