Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for Associate (part-time) Faculty positions in our Nursing Program. This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in a variety of healthcare areas and situations through lecture, lab and clinical instruction to prepare Level I and Level II students for an Applied Science Degree in Nursing.

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $917.39/per lecture credit and may also include a combination of $1,491.98/per lab credit/Nursing Clinical and/or $1,149.94/per Nursing Campus Lab.

This position reports to the Director of Health Education and works closely with the Allied Health Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Prepare and teach on-campus and off-campus lecture, lab and/or clinical instruction in nursing, especially in medical/surgical areas. Teaching assignments are determined by college and program needs and/or the individual's background and experience and may include day, evening/night, online or occasional weekend classes and/or availability.
  • Conduct effective instruction in all assigned areas with emphasis on medical-surgical nursing.
  • Maintain current course syllabi and course outlines.
  • Teach in areas and at times that support the college's needs.
  • Coordinate nursing theory and nursing skills lab curriculum with lab skills instructors.
  • Inspire excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of nursing.
  • Be responsible for identifying and meeting the needs of students, maintaining office hours, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of subject areas.
  • Keep abreast of current professional trends.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Maintain current student records and evaluations.
  • Advise and counsel students about their progress.
  • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the college.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Director or Health Education Programs.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, the candidate must possess the following:
  • Minimum of a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
  • Candidates possessing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a regionally accredited college or university MSN program or a graduate program in a health or education-related field with completion expected by June 2020 may be considered.
  • Must have a current unencumbered professional license as a Registered Nurse in Washington State.
  • Evidence of current clinical skills in nursing, particularly in geriatrics and medical-surgical areas.
  • Meet Washington Vocational Certification Standards.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Strong computer skills especially in accessing and utilizing computerized resources including computer applications for instructional purposes such as Internet resources, PowerPoint, Word, Canvas and Outlook.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
