Literacy Curriculum and Assessment

The College of Education at California State University, Fullerton, a nationally recognized Hispanic serving institution (HSI), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Department of Literacy and Reading Education with an emphasis on literacy curriculum, assessment, and intervention. The department consists of a dynamic and diverse group of faculty scholars and scholar-practitioners who thrive on collaboration and innovative ideas. The faculty work together to prepare literacy leaders in several existing programs:

• Master of Science in Education with a Concentration in Literacy and Reading
• California Reading and Literacy Added Authorization and
• California Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential

In excess of 200 students are currently enrolled in these face-to-face/hybrid and fully online programs from a variety of local, national, and international educational settings. Our programs are CTC and NCATE/CAPE accredited. The College of Education and the faculty of the Department of Literacy and Reading are committed to just, equitable, inclusive education. Position
We seek a knowledgeable colleague who is able to teach diverse learners in the areas of literacy curriculum and instruction, assessment and intervention. The successful candidate should have postsecondary teaching experience and a passion for innovative practice in face-to-face/hybrid and online instruction. Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses which lead to a Masters or specialist credential in literacy. All coursework focuses on the preparation and development of literacy leaders for educational settings serving linguistically and culturally diverse students. The candidate will possess a strong commitment to communitybased involvement. Student advisement, scholarly research and publishing, and university service are also important components of the position and essential for retention, tenure and promotion.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:

• Play a central role in developing a program focused on developing literacy leaders/ reading specialists.
• Teach literacy graduate and undergraduate courses, face-to-face/hybrid and fully online, to a range of students, in our added authorization, specialist credential and masters programs.
• Work with community partners to recruit students and collaborate on research and program development
• Generate literacy education research in conjunction with colleagues and students
• Actively collaborate in department, college, and university affairs.

Qualifications
Required

• A doctorate in education with a concentration in reading and/or literacy from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 21 units of graduate coursework in literacy, including but not limited to foundational knowledge, assessment, intervention, curriculum and instruction, diversity, professional learning and leadership, as these relate to PK-adult literacy.
• A record of demonstrated excellence in literacy instruction, with a minimum of 3 years' successful full-time PK-12 teaching experience
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse students using innovative instructional approaches and methods
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation of professionals who model and advocate for just, equitable and inclusive education
• Teaching experience using multiple technologies and the ability to teach and develop courses for online instruction
• Evidence of or demonstrated strong potential for scholarly and creative activity, a focused research agenda for advancing knowledge in the field of reading/literacy (PK-adult)
• A record of engagement in professional service and community engagement activities that align with the advancement of the field of reading/literacy.
• A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Preferred

• Demonstrated effective teaching of graduate courses in literacy curriculum, assessment, and intervention
• Demonstrated success in obtaining external funds to support research and program development
• Interest in taking a leadership role in the Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center, including: community relations, budget management and fundraising
• Passion for and record of educational improvement in communities serving low-income and LGBTQ students and students of color.

Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
